The Dragons' Lair
October/November Edition
From the Principals
Hello Dragon Families:
As we start our second nine weeks, I want to take a moment and share how proud I am of our students! Students are working so hard to be the best reader, writers, and problem solvers!! They should be celebrated!! Great work to all!!
This week we honored our students who earned the Initiative PRIDE award. Over and over, I heard how these students went above and beyond in school and as a friend. Congratulations to these recipients!
Today was ROCK YOUR SCHOOL day at SCES! There were a TON of smiles and fun for all!! Please see the attached slideshow for some pictures of the day!! Rock Your School is about making learning fun! Some grade levels and classrooms chose a dress-up theme, others did learning activities in a different fun way. Ask your child about what they did that was fun at school today!
Next week we will have our second SPIRIT Week in honor of Red Ribbon Week. We want to encourage our students and parents to take the Drug-Free Pledge that will be sent home Monday! We will be collecting points for a contest to earn a class party all week!! We hope your child will participate with us! Please see the link for an outline of our daily themes.
We will be hosting our first Parent Night at SCE for the year. We are excited to bring this back after COVID! This will be on November 2 from 5:30-6:30. Come and join us for some literacy, math, and science activities!! All families who participate will be entered to win a door prize!

We are always looking for substitute teachers! If you are interested in this, please let us know! This is a great way to be at school when your children are here and get paid for your time! Contact our central office for more information, 812-246-3375.
As always we want to thank you for your partnership! We appreciate the honor of working with your children every day!

Parent Portal
If you have not created your Parent Portal account, you will want to do this as soon as possible. This account will follow your child as long as they are enrolled in an SCSC school. This is where you can access grading information, attendance information, update your contact information, complete annual registration, and make payments to your child's account.
If you do not have access to your parent portal please email your name, your student's name, and your email on file to SCEPortal@scsc.school.
Report cards will be posted on the portal on Thursday after each quarter ends.
eLearning Schedule
You never know when we will have inclement weather. I want to make sure everyone is prepared for these instances. If we feel there is a chance of inclement weather, we will send the Chromebooks home with the students, just in case.
As posted on our website, we do have a synchronous e-Learning schedule that will happen in all classrooms. We understand that with younger students, there may be a delay in being able to participate and turn in work. For this reason, we offer a three-day window to complete all assignments from an eLearning day. If they are not completed and submitted during this window, the student is counted absent. We want to be as flexible as possible to help support you! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher, Mr. Sifers or myself.
Car Rider Change- NOV. 1
Beginning November 1st, we will be changing how we do morning drop off and afternoon pick up for car riders. We are working on finalizing all morning and afternoon plans. Once in place and striped, we will share a video explaining both AM and PM procedures. Please be looking for this information to come home soon. This is scheduled to change on Nov. 1st.
Cars will pull into the front lot by the playground. You can pick the shortest lane to get in, there will be 7 lanes across. We will release the first car from each lane, across all 7 lanes, to merge into one that will form the pick-up and drop-off line. We anticipate this to be difficult at first, but once we have all our drivers trained, I think it will work efficiently. Staff will be there to help everyone figure out the process. Once we have it striped, we will send out more information.
Tick or Treating
We will be hosting a Trunk or Treat this Sunday at 1:00 PM at our Jeffersonville office. Feel free to bring your students and enjoy trick-or-treating in a safe environment. See the flyer for details.
