Community Reads Initiative
Program Goals
promote positive behavior and build good character*
foster a culture of cooperation and citizenship
promote literacy and encourage the growth of knowledge
create a community connection through a shared reading experience
Last week we introduced our Community Reads Book "The Last Lecture." Students are encouraged to read the book and we will be discussing topics in the book throughout the year. We encourage community members to read the book as well. If you would like a copy we have additional books in the HS Office.
Post Prom Flash Fund Fundraising
You may have heard that the Class of 2020 Post Prom Committee is working to make sure Otsego’s Junior and Senior Post Prom is going to be a safe event! Prom is one of the two most dangerous nights for high school students to be on the road so we bus them to a fun event instead! The Junior Class is always responsible for raising the funds that pay for busses etc.
Many of you may have received an email from a student that you know, asking you to visit an online site to make a donations or to shop an online catalog. Student participating in the fundraiser can take any amount of donation or earn 40% of catalog sales; the catalog has 1500+ items. If a student raises $100 or $250 TOTAL in donations, they can earn tuition rewards valued at $1000 or $2500 at over 400 different universities, so every donation, no matter how big or small helps them too. Tuition rewards can also be passed to siblings.
If you are uncomfortable with online donations, and would still like to support keeping our students safe after prom, you can send a check to Otsego Post Prom into the high school office in an envelope marked Otsego Post Prom.
For those that didn't receive an email from one of our students, we still wanted to give you the chance to support our students. By clicking the link below, you’ll go directly to our donation page. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe during this exciting time!

Check Daily Announcements on the Powerschool App
Parents and students,
The Powerschool App has a feature called the "School Bulletin". This will allow people to easily view the daily announcements we make on their Powerschool app.
Here are some steps to help make it easy to access this "School Bulletin"
-Go into the Powerschool app with your child's code (username is their lunch id #, their password is the first 3 letters of their first name with the first letter capitalized)
-On the bottom left of the Home Page, Click on "Dashboard"
-Tap the "Edit" at the top left of the screen
-Find the "School Bulletin" and drag this to the top of the screen.
Now when you open the app you'll see the daily announcements and be kept in the loop of accolades and upcoming dates.

Food Service Department
To better assist our parents, we have implemented an online free and reduced meal application. This will eliminate having to get a paper application, filling it out and returning it to your child’s school.
Fill out the online application under www.lunchapplication.com, just as you would the paper application. Once the application is completed we are notified so we can complete the application process. This will reduce your notification time.
Please make sure you have a correct mailing address on the application, so the notification letter gets to you.

We will be once again helping our students out with our Food Service Pay It Forward Project. This fund will provide meals to students who do not have lunch money in their account and cannot charge anymore. We want all of our students to get a hot meal every day. If you are interested in helping with this project you can send money into the central office or any of the buildings. Just put Food Service Pay It Forward on the envelope. You can make checks payable to the Otsego BOE. Thank you so much!!

Student Council
Knight in Shining Armour
Please use the following form to inform OHS Student Council about a family in need within the school district. While the family does not need to have students in the district, we do ask that they are a member of the Otsego Community. Use this form to share information about their current situation as well as how they can best be assisted.
Please be sure to understand that while Knight in Shining Armor (KISA) would love to help all community members in need, we are still a new program, and may not have the funds to do so. With that being said, we will consider each request on a case by case basis. Filling this form out does not guarantee that we will be able to assist the family, but we will try our hardest to do so!
Here are some things that we have done with KISA funds:
- School supplies were purchased for multiple families.
- Gas money has been provided to get to and from medical treatment.
- Food cards have been provided to help families afford meals while going through medical treatment.
- Cash donations have been made to families to help assist in paying bills during medical treatment.
- Gift cards and supplies have been provided to help make ends meet after housing emergencies have occurred.
We now have TWO ways that you can nominate a family in need. Bookmark the link below to use as the need arises. You can also find this link on the Otsegoknights.org webpage under the "District" tab.
Please do not hesitate to nominate a family in need, and KISA will do their best to help out!
