Dear Pleasant View Families,
We want your child to be as successful as possible at school. Success in school is not just about reading and math. It is also about knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. We will be using the Second Step program in your child’s classroom (Kindergarten through grade 5) to teach these critical skills.
The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas:
Skills for Learning: Students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, and be assertive when asking for help with schoolwork.
Empathy: Students learn to identify and understand their own and others’ feelings. Students also learn how to take another’s perspective and how to show compassion.
Emotion Management: Students learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as anxiety or anger.
Problem Solving: Students learn a process for solving problems with others in a positive way.
Your child will be learning a lot this year—and he or she will need your help! Throughout the year, your child may be bringing home Home Links that go with several of the Second Step lessons. Home Links are simple, fun activities for you and your child to complete together. They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows.
If you have any questions about the Second Step program, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life.
Sincerely,
Jamie Foeckler, PhD

GUARDIAN GOOGLE CLASSROOM EMAIL SUMMARY
There is some confusion about the Parent/Guardian Google Classroom email summary. When a teacher adds a Parent/Guardian email addresses to Google Classroom, this does not give the parent access to Google Classroom. The email address being added registers the parent/guardian to receive a weekly email summary that looks like the image below. The parent/guardian will get one summary per child for all Google Classrooms the child is connected to. If you want to see the Google Classroom assignments or postings in real time, please have your child log in so you can view the Classroom with him/her.
You can read more about the Parent/Guardian summary you receive on this Google Classroom support page here.
This is what the summary email looks like:

Please note that any additional purchases including extra slice of Domino’s Pizza ($2.50 each) and Milk ($.45) for Cold Lunch/Extra will still be charged to your child’s account because these purchases are not included in the Free Lunch Program.

5K-5TH GRADE PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
We will be having Virtual 5K-5th Grade Parent/Teacher Conferences via Google Meet on Thursday, October 15th and Tuesday, October 20th from 4:30-8:00 pm respectively. We look forward to having you sign up for a 15-minute time slot on one of the above dates. Your student(s) teacher will then send you an email invite for your conference. Please remember that the best communication with parents is communication at the “right time” for the “right reason.” By combining traditional methods of communication with the use of technology, parents can be more up-to-date than ever regarding their child’s progress in school. Parents are encouraged to utilize all methods of communication available to be informed and active partners in their child’s educational experience.
If you have multiple children in the school, we recommend that you complete this process early for the best chance at grouping your conference times together.
We request that parents who live in separate households schedule just one conference with each child’s teacher. By attending the conference together, we are able to share the same information with both parents at the same time. If this will not be possible for your family, please contact Mr. Foeckler at 414-423-4650.
Please sign up for a virtual time slot from the dates that are provided. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
InPerson Students please click here to sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences

Hello! This school year is off to a great start! We had our first Virtual PTO meeting on September 14th. We want you to know that we are working on setting up Dine Out Nights with some local restaurants. These will be our only fundraising events this year. It’s a great way to give back to our school and to help our community during these tough economic times due to COVID-19.
We are also working on setting up some socially responsible family events, virtual or otherwise. We feel like student interaction is extremely important right now and we miss being able to host our normal events at school. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to let us know and we will work to hopefully make them happen. We do have some great ideas already so please look for further information in the near future.
PV PTO is still looking for someone to be our Secretary. We are seeking someone with strong computer skills to help take notes during our meetings and to assist with a few other minor duties. This is a 2 year role but will only take up a few hours of your time each month. Please let us know if you are interested. Email us at pvpto14@gmail.com. Thank you!
