AVID Hosts Judge Hardison as Guest Speaker

On Friday, December 09, 2016 AVID students welcomed guest speaker the Honorable Paul A. Hardison , Chief District Court Judge, Onslow County. Judge Hardison spoke with students about achieving their true potential. He shared with them “don’t let your situation determine your destination.” What he meant by this was, while students may encounter barriers such as low social economic status and/or single family households amongst other things, it is the individual determination and drive that determines how successful you become in life. He spoke about the struggles he faced growing up in a single-parent household with little money. He emphasized that his hard work and determination to accomplish his dreams allowed him to have a very successful career. The judge reiterated this point by emphasizing “don’t let your attitude affect your altitude.” He encouraged positive peer connections and the importance of surrounding yourself with friends that inspire you to reach your full potential. He also spoke about humility, and understanding that while no one is perfect, learning from your mistakes makes you more successful.

Wrapping Up Wrestling

According to Coach Scott, the TMS wrestling team performed better than ever before in TMS wrestling history! The team finished in 2nd place in the conference with a record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. Avery Cook completed the season undefeated! We look forward to next year’s wrestling season and hope that we will perform as well as we did this year, Scott finished.

Sizing Up Soccer

The Lady Falcon soccer team played a tough season this year! Every game, the team fought hard to score and to protect the goal. The Falcons went 4-4 throughout the season. Coach Bostic, Coach Coy, and Coach Sunding are very proud of all the girls, their hard work, and their accomplishments throughout the season! We wish our 8th graders luck at the high school and look forward to seeing our 7th graders again next year!
