Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
November 12, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
Yesterday we recognized the importance of Veterans Day by holding our first school-wide assembly since the spring of 2020! Tashua students and staff gathered socially distanced outside to honor those who have served our country to protect our freedom.
We were excited to have several Veterans and family members join us and we began our event with a Flag Ceremony by Tashua's Cub Scouts. To view the video, click below:
We also enjoyed a beautiful version of our National Anthem performed by our very own Tashua teacher, Amy Congdon. To view her performance, click below:
In addition, several students gave a brief history of the holiday and other students lead us in the Veterans day sing-along. To view these videos, click below:
We are so grateful for all of the hard work that our staff members put forth to make this event such a success, especially Mr. Cohen, Mrs. Congdon, Mr. Richard, Mrs. Yurkerwich and Mrs. McKenna.

Further, in addition to the students making stars and writing letters to Veterans, we also collected candy to be donated. We are thrilled to announced that we collected over 106 lbs of candy for many Veterans to enjoy! The letters and candy will be donated to the VA Hospital in West Haven.
Lastly, we created a bulletin board with pictures and brief descriptions of honored Veterans. The bulletin board will stay up for awhile as we continue to add photographs to honor our family and friends.
We thank you for joining us in celebrating those who have served our country!
We also have some exciting news from Mrs. Congdon! As part of her classroom tradition, students from her 2020-21class submitted poems last year into a nationwide contest. Fifteen students were chosen to have their poems published in the book, "A Celebration of Poets" and we were a Poetic Achievement Honor School!
Congratulations to the following students: Malcolm Bellows, Cole Bonin, Dylan Carew, Madelyn Diaz, Avery Dombrowski, Leo Gomes, Brianna Grimes, Brayden Herrera, Shanaya Jhala, Charlie Kennedy, Aishwarya Maddukuri, Samuel Martinez-Diaz, Leah McElroy, Bianca Miranda and Charlotte Pisinski.
On Monday, we will have several administrators and teachers from across the district visiting Tashua School to do Instructional Rounds during math instruction. We are excited to have outside visitors in the building to demonstrate how hard our mathematicians are working each and every day to be successful! We will be wearing our Tashua gear or blue and orange on Monday to show our school spirit.
We thank you for your continued support for our work at Tashua School! As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at NeumeyeJ@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4433.

Reminder of Student Drop Off/Pick- Up Procedures
(This includes drop-off for before school activities such as band and strings.)
We are asking for your help to keep Tashua students safe at morning drop off and afternoon pick up. EVERY child’s safety is important to us! To avoid unsafe conditions, we need everyone to correctly follow our pick-up and drop-off procedures. When these procedures are not followed, we put our students and (parent drivers) at risk.
Vehicles may begin lining up in the drop-off/pick-up area on Dayton road as early as 8:00 AM in the morning and 2:45 PM in the afternoon. It is strongly recommended that parents DO NOT make a left off of Stonehouse road to access our Dayton Road entrance.
It is safest for our children if all parents access the Dayton Road entrance by travelling towards school via Ashbury Road, Old Village Road or Lake Avenue (see map below.) When vehicles are entering the drop-off/pick-up area via Dayton Road, cars should turn right into the circle by the TLC entrance. When this suggestion isn’t followed, it puts our children at risk and causes the traffic to back-up, resulting in the busses being delayed.
You Should NOT:
- Get out of your car
- While you are in line, you must wait until the car in front of you pulls forward to exit the driveway. You should not try to pass cars in the drop-off/pick-up line.
- At the end of the day, please wait in line (in your car) until your child is brought to you.
Further, when exiting the parking lot, it is recommended that all parents make a right onto Dayton Road, travelling towards Stonehouse Road.
Thank you for your continuing support in making Tashua School a safe environment for all.
