Principal's Update
August 27, 2021
Welcome Back Wolves
I hope each of you has had time to enjoy the things you love this summer! Our team has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year, and we wanted to send a few quick updates today. Additional details and information will be emailed next week as well, but this will be a great start for things to know for the coming week.
We are excited to welcome back our Ridges Wolves in person this fall and we look forward to working together as a team to make this an amazing school year!
Hope you have a great end to your summer,
Miranda
First Week of School Information
Class lists will be emailed home on Thursday, September 2nd between 3-4 pm. Please note this is a date change from my email in the spring. With the work being done for an online option, we won’t be able to finalize class lists until we have that registration information.
There will be no supply night this year. Supplies will be brought to class on the first day of school. If you need a copy of our supply lists they can be found linked here. If you need assistance with supplies please send me an email or call our SHARE center at (503)825-5087
September 7th will be an optional connection day for teachers and students. Your child’s teacher will be sending home information later next week about virtual connection times on the 7th. If you’d like to join one great, if not, we will plan to see you on the 8th!
We will also be offering times to tour our building on September 7th at 9 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm. If you are interested in a tour please email Tammy Roeter at: troeter@sherwood.k12.or.us to sign up for a time. Space is limited, but additional opportunities will also be provided later in September.
Our first day of in-person school (for all students in grades 1-5) will be September 8th. Please have your students bring their school issued device and charger with them to school during the first week. Please note that does not apply to our incoming third grade students as most of them returned their devices in the spring and will be receiving new devices during the first weeks of school
Kindergarten orientation information can be found linked here. Also, if you participated in one of our kindergarten playdates, we would love to have you complete the survey linked here so we can continue to make sure we are providing the best supports to our families in the years to come.
Pre-K families should have received an email with general information last week. Additional details will be shared by our pre-k teacher in the weeks to come. Pre-K supply lists can be found linked here.
In Person Information
Students riding the bus and eating breakfast can arrive at 7:30 am. All other students, if possible, will be asked to arrive at 7:45 am to stagger the arrival of students entering the building. Locations for building entry will be shared next week, but will look similar to last year. No adults or volunteers will be allowed in the building for drop off.
Dismissal will look very similar to last year as well. Students will be released in assigned areas outside at 2:15 pm each day (1:15 pm on Wednesdays). A map with locations will also be shared next week. No adults or volunteers will be allowed in the building for pickup.
All school meals (lunch and breakfast) will be free of charge this year. No sign-ups or forms will be required to participate. There are other services that can be accessed through our Free and Reduced meals application however, so if that is something your family is interested in, you can find the form linked here.
Students will be distanced 6 feet apart any time they are eating. For at least the start of the school year when the weather is nice, we will maximize the opportunities to eat outside. This may mean students will be eating on our grassy field areas, covered play areas, or other large outdoor spaces with room for students to spread out and eat 6 feet apart.
Students will not be required to wear masks at recess, but will be distanced 6 feet apart to the fullest extent possible and only at recess with other students from their grade level cohorts.
There will be no indoor volunteers during the school day. Volunteers will be allowed in the building, as needed, after students are dismissed. We may also have limited outdoor volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Within the classroom, students will only be with other students in their assigned class and will be seated 3 feet apart to the fullest extent possible.
We will continue to have students wash or sanitize their hands frequently and all school spaces will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.
Students will be required to wear a mask when inside our building. Families who do not want their student to wear a mask to attend school in-person will be provided with an option to continue their student’s education virtually. According to the guidance provided by the Oregon Department of Education, “Schools cannot serve a student in-person if they or their family choose not to wear a face covering. Schools may offer a remote or online school option for the student.” Please review today’s District Updates newsletter (which will be sent out later today) for more information on the district’s online option.
