Congratulations BCSC Teachers and Staff Members of the Year

Honorees will be celebrated in a special virtual ceremony in May attended by family and friends. That's also when the overall BCSC Teacher and Staff Member of the Year will be announced. Thank you to all BCSC staff for what you do for our students and families every day!

*Because of its small staff, Harris honors a staff member on alternate years. ALPHA and ECC rotate between teacher and staff member annually.*

BHS Bowler is State Champ

BHS Bowler is State Champ

Congratulations to BHS junior M. Kennedy! She is the 2020-2021 Indiana High School Girls Bowling State Champion after her performance in the State match over Spring Break, defeating the 2nd and 1st qualifiers to become the first ever BHS State Champion in bowling. Over 600 girls compete in bowling throughout Indiana. Kennedy was also named to the All Regional, All Tournament, and All State Teams. Both the girls and boys BHS bowling teams advanced to the Semi-State this year.

BHS Speech & Debate State Placer

The BHS Speech and Debate Team is a fairly new endeavor at Brownsburg High School. In March, sophomore C. Opafola participated in the state speech tournament for the Indiana High School Forensics Association. Opafola advanced to the Semi Finals where she ended up placing 11th in the state. Congratulations to Comfort and the entire team on a great season.

BHS National Honor Society Inducts 156

BHS inducted 156 new members to the National Honor Society in March in two socially distant ceremonies. Brownsburg has one of the highest requirements in the state and all inductees achieved at least a 3.8 GPA in their first 5 semesters, plus demonstrated service, character, and leadership qualities.

BCSC WELCOMES WEBB + JOHNSON ACCEPTS POSITION

BCSC WELCOMES WEBB + JOHNSON ACCEPTS POSITION

At the March 8 meeting of the BCSC Board of School Trustees, the Board approved Shayla Webb as the Coordinator of Equity and Diversity. Mrs. Webb most recently served as the Diversity and Inclusion Program Manager for the State of Indiana. “I am eager to work alongside Dr. Snapp to advance equity and diversity in BCSC. This work is paramount in ensuring that our children can learn in an environment free of discrimination and fear,” says Webb. Mrs. Webb and her husband Marlon and two children are already part of the Brownsburg community.


Also at the March 8 meeting, the BCSC Board of School Trustees approved Laurie Johnson as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Johnson will assume this role after the retirement of Julie Vanliew in June. In her 10th year at BCSC, she currently serves as Principal of Brownsburg West Middle School (BWMS). Johnson is excited to take on this new challenge, “While I will always cherish my time as the principal of West Middle School, I am thrilled to be focusing on the work of curriculum and instruction and working alongside all of the schools in this amazing district.” Laurie and her husband Nicholas reside in Brownsburg with their two children. The search for the new BWMS Principal is nearing completion with an announcement to be made by mid-April.

U.S. 136 Closed at Tracks for Two Weeks

U.S. 136 Closed at Tracks for Two Weeks

The U.S. 136 RR crossing in Brownsburg closed to traffic this morning. CSX Railroad will be restoring the tracks at C.R. 900 E. The road is scheduled to reopen at 7 p.m. on Fri, 4/16.

The official detour follows Green St. to I-74 to Ronald Reagan Parkway to Connector Rd. and back. Buses will detour around the intersection to safely complete their routes. As always, if there is a delay of more than 10 minutes, parents will be contacted.

BCSC COVID Reporting Survey - Spring Break Cases?

We appreciate your continued support to help staff with identifying positive COVID-19 cases to complete the contact tracing directed by the Hendricks County Health Department. If your student has tested positive for COVID-19 - even if they were away from school on spring break, we ask that you complete an online survey to start the contact tracing process as quickly as possible. Getting accurate information directly from the family is the most efficient way to start identifying any close contacts to a positive case. Clinic nurses keep a database of all positive cases to inform their care.

BCSC Food and Clothing Pantry

The BCSC Food Pantry launched in the summer of 2014 through a partnership with Gleaners Food Bank. Thanks to the hard work of community and staff volunteers and Applied Skills students in the Collaborators for Success program at BHS, the pantry has served over 18,000 people and 4,800 families since 2014. BCSC families have also contributed donations to help make the pantry such a great resource for our community.


The pantry is open again on April 15th from 3pm-5:30pm in a drive thru setting and always on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays of the month. Visitors can use door #7 at the ALPHA/Harris Academy building, 725 C South Green Street.
