3. You are a family!- Each of you stated that you enjoyed working here due to the students and the amazing staff at West View. This immediately made me take a huge sigh of relief! As I am leaving my West Johnston family, I am gaining another amazing Wise Owl family. When we think of the word family, understand that families have secrets, endure things together, trust one another, and have each others backs. Families also have disagreements. This WILL happen! You will not agree with every decision I make or every procedure I implement. But I must do what is best for the entire family; students, parents, staff and stakeholders included. Also, in a family, you didn't call Child Protective Services when you didn't get a toy you wanted, told no, or because your brother or sister got to color and you didn't . So in true Mangum fashion I say, Calling county office should be your last resort. (Protocol is important) Just like you trusted your leaders (parents) to do what was best, I ask for the same.
2. You want a ¨norm¨- Talking to many of you, you spoke about expectations. You asked for clear expectations and procedures. You also asked for the standards to be kept high. Some of you have been at West View since the doors opened. I valued your opinions and thoughts about previous leadership. From your input, I heard your cries for order in the cafeteria, in the hallways, and changes in student discipline procedures. I will be working with the admin team over the summer to improve our discipline procedures and using more positive behavior interventions. Know that this won't happen overnight, but it is a priority as we look toward the first week of school.
1. YOU WANT COMMUNICATION!!!!!!- Every single one of you stated that communication was lacking. Whether it was about upcoming events, new staff members, or just daily ins and outs, you felt like you just didn't know what was going on. There are going to be things that I, as the principal can not tell you or share with you. But I will work hard to keep a pulse on the school and the community, and keep you informed. I think that I may get on some of your nerves eventually with all the newsletters, emails, and updates. =) I plan to utilize our school website, Twitter, Facebook, (Soon Instagram), Connect Ed, and Smore to get information to you, our parents, and the community.
