PHCS Digital Learning Days Update
Week Three - April 6th-10th, 2020
This week "Digital Learning Days" Cycle:
Monday - Day 4
Tuesday - Day 1
Wednesday - Day 2
Thursday - Day 3
Friday - Day 4
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPALS
Dear PHCS Families,
Although we have not been in session for many days, we are very proud of our students and staff at this time! We are amazed at the amount of learning that has continued since the onset of this experience. While we hope we are able to be back in session soon, we recognize that the health and safety of our community is everyone's top priority.
As you know, districts are receiving daily updates from state and federal governments. We recently received new information that the previously scheduled spring break will not be followed and that online instruction and meal deliveries will continue throughout the school closure. In addition, last week Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order which extended the official school closure state-wide until April 15th. Prior to that date, the Governor will assess the situation and either reopen schools or extend the closure. The Governor has also declared that annual school budget votes and board of education elections will be postponed until June 1. Please note that you will receive the PHCS budget notice and newsletter later than usual.
As the COVID-19 crisis continues please remember we are here to help! Our goal is to respond to your concerns as quickly as possible using our online Helpdesk Assistance Form. This can be accessed for help with meals, technology, counseling or instruction. Our school counseling team has also put together some great resources which can be accessed using the button below!
We will do our very best to keep you informed as this situation evolves. In the meantime, please check our Facebook Page and District Website frequently for updates. Please know we have all of you in our thoughts right now. We ask that you do our best to state positive for our community's learners. Let them know they are recognized and valued for their strength, determination, and character during this trying time. We believe our young people can still achieve their goals, despite these circumstances!
Stay healthy,
Brooke and Steve
Updated Food Service Plan
Beginning Monday, April 6th, PHCS will be providing food service once a week. Each family will receive enough food on Monday to provide breakfast and lunch for children in the household age 18 and under. Remember, students do not need to qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch in order to receive food. Families will need to be signed-up on the foodservice form in order to receive these deliveries. If you have not signed up yet, here is the link:
If you have already been receiving meals there is no need to complete the form again.
PHCS is working hard to provide this service for families in our district while doing all we can to keep our staff safe. You will now find that rather than pre-made sandwiches, the items needed to make sandwiches will be included in the delivery. This new plan reduces the number of staff hours and greatly reduces the handling of food items.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How is my child being graded during the school closure? Our first priority is the safety and wellness of our students. To this end, assignment completion allows us to connect with students and that all students are engaged and accounted for. Students we do not hear from or see evidence of engagement in the digital learning environment will be contacted. For further clarification please contact your child's administrator. In addition, Mr. Coffin has provided some helpful information in his letter above.
- How much longer will school be closed? The Department of Education in collaboration with the State Health Department & Governor's Office will make this decision. We will keep you posted.
- Can my child use a cell phone or other home device to do their Remote Learning? Yes, the device just needs to have internet access, the ability to compose writing assignments (typing or voice recognition) and the ability to access their Google classrooms.
- We are confused about the assignment and/or are having technical issues accessing the lessons/assignments - what do we do? Please email the teacher first and give them some time to respond, then access the PHCS Assistance Helpdesk Form and someone will connect with you as soon as possible. PHCS ASSISTANCE HELPDESK FORM
- Will students be marked absent during the closure? No.
- Can all children still be signed up for meal delivery service? Yes! Here is the link for the meal sign-up/survey. Please provide all the information requested. Meal Delivery Sign-Up.
