Most of America thinks that the country Iraq was the cause of one of the most tragic event’s, 9/11. America was wrong. Iraq didn’t cause 9/11; terrorists that were Muslim were the cause of 9/11. 9/11 is also the reason we went to war with Iraq, all of America at the time thought the country Iraq sent those 19 people to the America to get on planes and fly them into the most important buildings in America. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of those 19 people who went to America to destroy the twin towers.
On Sunday, May 1, 2011, United States troops shot and killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A gun battle broke out when the troops moved toward the building in which bin Laden was located, the troops surrounded the building and Osama was shot in the head with a single bullet and immediately died. News of bin Laden's death brought cheers and a sense of relief around the world.
While Osama's death was an accomplishment in the United States and around the world, analysts were concerned that Al-Qaeda might seek revenge. United States embassies worldwide were put on high alert for terrorists and the United States issued a warning for travelers visiting dangerous countries. Some Afghan officials were concerned that Osama's death might make the United States withdraw troops from Afghanistan and they said the United States should maintain there because terrorism will continue to happen in the United States.
Osama has been the cause of many deadly attacks on the United States and its partners: the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen; the 1998 bombings at the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 200. Osama also claimed responsibility for a gunfight in 1993 that killed 18 U.S. troops in Somalia and the 1996 bombing of the Khobar military complex in Saudi Arabia that left 19 United States soldiers dead.
Osama was born in Saudi Arabia in 1957, his father of Yemeni origins and his Syrian mother. His dad was Mohammed bin Laden. Mohammed created a construction company and eventually became a billionaire. The company's business was rebuilding mosques in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
Mohammed took many wives and fathered 50 children. Osama was either the 17th son, or the 25th son. In a society where status within a family is highly important, Osama would have been of a really low rank. Osama studied management and economics under the influence of religious teachers who introduced him to the world of Islamic politics.
The Soviet invasion of 1979 in Afghanistan put Osama in a medical condition. He supported the Afghan resistance, which became a holy war. Surprisingly , the United States became a major supporter of the Afghan resistance, working with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The United States helped set up Islamic schools in Pakistan for Afghanistan refugees. These schools later evolved into virtual training centers for Islamic radicals. Osama Bin Laden's death was an accomplishment to the United States and most other nations.
