Bateman Buzz; VOL 4
2023-2024; VOL 4
Dear Bateman Families and Friends,
We've had so many wonderful opportunities to gather and celebrate our school community! Thank you for joining us for our Quarter 1 Showcase. What a turn out! Additionally, over 1,300 were in attendance at our annual BOOOsterfest! We were overwhelmed with joy to see so many of our families having fun together. A huge thank you to all who made the event a great success! Finally, we had an incredible turn out yesterday at Report Card Pick Up. All of these moments of showing up to support your child(ren) have a profound impact on shaping your child(ren)'s future. Your partnership and investment in your child's education is admirable!
Halloween is this Tuesday, October 31, and I want all of our students to have a great time. But it’s also important to make sure everyone is safe and responsible while celebrating. Please ensure all costumes are appropriate in nature and adhere to the guidelines below.
Costumes cannot include any of the following:
Full Face-Covering Masks
Costumes must not demean any race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, condition, or gender
Weapons (No guns, daggers, swords, or any other weapons)
Horror costumes that may be too gory, including fake blood
Please be reminded that we are a healthy school! In accordance with school wellness policies...candy, cookies, chips, pop, juice that is not 100%, taffy apples, etc., are not allowed in school on Monday, Oct. 31 nor are the students to take home any “goody bags” that have been filled during the school day. There are two celebration days when these foods are allowed: the winter break classroom party (on Thursday) and the end of the school year classroom party. Thanks for your help in making Bateman a healthy school!
Below are some safety tips that can help kids have a safe and enjoyable time as they head out after school this Halloween. Parents, please remind your trick-or-treaters to do all of the following:
Travel in pairs or small groups whenever possible.
Communicate about their location and where they are going.
Use reflective tape on their costumes to help cars and people see them better
Stick to well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk.
Carry a cell phone for emergencies, but remember to stay alert while walking.
Pay close attention while crossing the street and while walking in parking lots.
Go to the nearest business or populated area if feeling uncomfortable or threatened and call for help.
Please also make sure that your children are thoughtful when choosing their costumes. With all the unrest happening around the world right now, it’s important that we teach our kids to be sensitive to the feelings of others, and that they choose costumes that are respectful to people of all cultures and faiths.
Please help your children understand how to celebrate responsibly so that everyone can have a fun and safe Halloween this year. You can also visit our city’s guide to celebrating Halloween safely for additional resources.
To all those who celebrate, Happy Halloween! Please stay safe!
Warm Regards,
Ms. Davos & Ms. Kloepper

El Día de los Muertos Ofrendas
In the weeks leading up to Dia de Muertos, many families embark on the heartfelt task of preparing their home altars, known as ofrendas, which serve as meaningful tributes to honor those who have passed away.
Within these ofrendas, families lovingly place photographs of their dearly departed, alongside cherished mementos like a beloved book, a meaningful trinket, or even a symbol representing their favorite food or beverage. Personal letters are also included.
These ofrendas encompass traditional elements, including water, candles, vibrant marigolds, intricate paper flowers, and the Pan de Muerto, a delicious Mexican sweet bread.
We invite your family to participate in Bateman Elementary's celebration of this beautiful cultural tradition, as a way to remember and pay homage to our beloved departed. You can contribute by bringing a photograph of your cherished loved one, a small token that holds significance to their memory, or a heartfelt letter dedicated to them.
You can send these special items with your child starting next week, on October 30th. The construction of our Dia de los Muertos ofrendas has already commenced on all floors of our school. We anticipate having the ofrendas fully decorated and ready by November 2nd.
