This virus can often cause cancers in the body which can be fatal.

The vaccine

Age Vaccine is Given

It is not required to get this vaccine, but is recommended to get this vaccine when boys and girls are aged 11 and 12. If people do not get this vaccine, they are allowed to get it until the age of 26 for both males and females.

Side Effects of the vaccine

Some people get a sore arm from the injection and a few get fevers, but these symptoms usually go away in a few days time. Some less severe side effects include:
  • headaches
  • stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • joint pain
  • abdominal pain
  • cough
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • fever

The severe side effects are:

  • blood in the urine or stool
  • pneumonia
  • inflammation of the stomach or intestines
