The Day's Events

Presenters will showcase various aspects of secondary writing instruction including strategies for developing:

  • ELL student writing
  • SPED student writing
  • District literacy plans
  • Peer conferencing skills
  • Writing feedback
  • The use of mentor texts
  • Reading/writing connections
  • The use of technology to engage writers

The conference will conclude with a recorded webinar from Jeff Anderson! He will speak to the four guiding principles of the Write for Texas program:

  1. Using writing and reading to support student learning in all content areas
  2. Teaching students the thinking skills, processes, and knowledge needed to write effectively
  3. Teaching students skills for writing effective sentences in order to create coherent texts,
  4. Providing extra assistance and instruction to students who experience difficulty learning to write
