A WORD FROM MR. SISSON
Dear SMS Families,
I hope you and your family have had a restful, rejuvenating, and memorable summer. After a year like last year, we all need it! We have had a wonderful and exciting start to our school year. The energy around our school has been amazing! Our students are ready to be in school and it is showing every day. We are all so thankful that you have chosen SMS for your student(s). We can’t wait to partner with you this year.
At this time, masks are optional for staff and students. This will be a family choice and we will support the decision that works best for you. We are committed to making school as “normal” as possible for our students this year while taking safety and health as a top priority for all. We still need families to keep their students home if they exhibit one major symptom or two or more minor symptoms. The Colorado Department of Education has informed all districts that remote learning is not an option this school year unless we are responding to a COVID incident (positive cases/exposures within the school). All learning this year will be 100% in-person at all brick and mortar schools. If your family is needing to explore online learning due to risk factors in the home, please contact the school so we can discuss other ways to meet your family’s needs. We will partner together to do what’s best for our students and your family.
We are asking all parents to ensure that they can log in to PowerSchool. Parents and students will need to check PowerSchool weekly to see how your student is doing with their grades. If you need support with getting into PowerSchool, please reach out to our office.
I look forward to an incredible year together. Thank you for all the kind words you have expressed to our staff that has been tirelessly dedicated to our students and families. Thank you for supporting our community in the greatest times of need. Thank you for your contribution to the success of Skyview and all that walk our halls.
GO EAGLES!
Matthew Sisson

DRESS CODE REMINDER
We are so excited to have students back in the building! We are heading into our third week and we are having more and more incidents with dress code so we wanted to send out a reminder about dress code here at Skyview. Please help us by ensuring that your student is coming to school in appropriate attire!
Students will begin to have to call home to get appropriate clothing this week.
If you are unfamiliar with our dress code this is taken directly from our student handbook that can be found in all student planners.
Dress and Grooming:
Students are expected to wear appropriate attire that does not distract from the learning environment both during the school day and at school sponsored activities. Students are expected to practice good cleanliness and tidiness; Skyview encourages the appropriate use of hygiene products before our students come to school. ANY clothing, paraphernalia, grooming, jewelry, accessories or body adornments that are disruptive, potentially disruptive to the educational environment, or represent gang affiliations as determined by the administration are not permitted.
Inappropriate items that SHALL NOT be worn at Skyview include but are not limited to the following:
Clothing with obscene slogans, pictures, or see through clothing
Jewelry or clothing depicting drugs/alcohol, violence, sexually inappropriate messages and or weapons
Gang or gang type related dress attire, to include bandanas, beanies, hoodies, or do-rags
Sleepwear of any kind (e.g., pajamas/lounge bottoms and/or tops, blankets, slippers, etc.).
Skirts, dresses, shorts, that are immodest, too short for appropriate coverage. Bottom garments must be longer than the tip of the middle finger on the fully extended arm
Ragging and sagging are unacceptable
Personal grooming during class is not permitted- as well as the use of perfumes, body sprays, etc.
Halter, tube tops, or other backless tops or bare midriffs, necklines cut too low to provide adequate coverage, half shirts, strapless clothing, see-through clothing, spaghetti straps or tops with less than two-inch-wide shoulder straps
Athletic muscle/mesh shirts
Hanging overall straps or decorative pant straps
Clothing that allows undergarments to be seen
Clothing that is inappropriately short, tight or revealing
Hats, caps, hoods or other head coverings which is visible except for designated spirit days
Sunglasses, chains or spikes are not to be worn in the building
In cases of questionable dress, the administration will have final word on what is appropriate. Students in violation of this policy will be asked to change clothes. If a student does not have other clothing, the school will provide alternate clothing. Parents may be called to bring student appropriate clothes to finish the school day. Subsequent violations will be subject to disciplinary action. Please be aware that scented products may pose a health risk to others so please be considerate. Inappropriate use of any aerosols, fragrances or any other scented product may lead to disciplinary consequences.

SCHOOLOGY LOG-IN
School Nurse/ Health room
Welcome back!! We are so happy to have your student back in person!! Please complete the following tasks as soon as possible!!
Please visit this link for helpful information from our nursing service team! You can find health forms, medication forms, and immunization forms on this page.
https://www.d49.org/domain/261
If your child needs to have medication at school, per Colorado law, we must have a doctor's order for them to be allowed to take it at school. This includes over the counter medications. These forms are available on our nursing website. Your child may NOT self carry medication without authorization from the school. There are only certain medications that can be authorized for self carry.
If you haven't already, please complete the Annual Health History that was sent out via email. Our goal is to help keep your child healthy and safe while at school. We can best achieve this with the health history form. If you are unable to complete this electronically, please let us know so that we can provide you with a paper copy.
Immunization - In Colorado, immunizations are required in order to attend school. If you have not done so, please provide a copy of your child's immunization record to the health room. In 2020, the passage of Senate Bill 20-163 changed the requirements for parents seeking a nonmedical exemption from school required vaccines. Please see the video on our nursing services link if this applies to you. This year, you have to have a signed form from the doctor or a copy of the certificate of completion from the State website. If you do not provide the required immunization or exclusion paperwork, your child may be excluded from school. Please take care of this as soon as possible. Please see the attached link and contact us if you have any questions or concerns!
