What is going on?
I am requesting a few donations to the class:
I would greatly appreciate a few quality staplers. I really like the Swingline brand. It can take some abuse, but it does not have to be this brand. We have gone through three in the last two weeks. I would also like to have medium sized flash lights. We like to turn out the lights and read by flashlight sometimes. Another item needed by each kid, is a handheld pencil sharpener. I prefer types with cases to catch the shavings. Thanks for considering!
Now on to bigger and better things:
What we are learning this coming week...
Math: This week the students will be reviewing addition strategies taught up to this point, while adding to their strategy foundation by incorporating – bridging to ten. Students will be problem solving daily to connect math to everyday experiences, while they communicate, and use logical reasoning to solve *Daily: warm up in math - this covers a variety of skills that the students will spiral through. The goal is that the constant exposure will keep all the skills fresh.
Science: The spotlight in science will be physical changes. Students will demonstrate that things can be done to materials to change their physical properties such as, cutting, folding, sanding and melting. We will be conducting several experiments in the classroom to demonstrate physical changes.
Reading: The focus in reading will be a continuation of media literacy. Students will use comprehension skills to analyze how words, images, graphics, and sounds work together in various forms to impact meaning. We will also be working on some new responses to reading called Daily 5!
Writing: The big idea in writing this week will be imaginary writing. Students will be generating ideas, planning and organizing, drafting, revising words and sentences, editing for capitalization and punctuation. Then students will be learning how to listen and give feedback and share stories.
High 5!
Students will be took home their Project Based Learning notebooks this week, please read over their work, and return the notebooks on Monday for us to continue using in class.
