Meadowbrook News
January 14, 2022
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
As you know, our secondary schools will pivot to an online learning model through next week. While we are watching our elementary schools and early childhood/preK programs very closely, we do not plan to transition the learning model for early childhood, preschool, or elementary at this time. Our elementary/preK schools will stay open for as long as we are able to staff at effective levels. Thank you for all your support and everything you are doing to support our ability to provide in-person instruction.
Currently Meadowbrook has about 4% of our student body quarantined because they have tested positive for Covid. To our families coping with this, hang in there; may wellness return to you quickly! To all families, we will continue to notify you when there is a positive case in your child's classroom and when your child is determined to be a close contact. We so appreciate your partnership when it comes to Covid mitigation; whether that means keeping your sick child home, consulting about exposure and symptoms, or picking up learning materials during a quarantine.
If you are looking for a way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy, please consider joining Sweet Potato Comfort Pie's free online MLK Weekend of Service event on Sunday, January 16th from 2:00-4:30pm. The theme of this year's celebration marking Dr. King's 93rd birthday is "Character Values: Upholding Our Beloved Community." There will be presentations, awards, and critical dialogues, all done to remind us that each one of us is who we are because of our beloved community. If interested, you can register here.
Take care,
Natalie

Hopkins Public Schools COVID-19 Dashboard remains live on our website. Please remember to have your child complete a daily health screening every day before attending school. It is very important that you keep your child home if they are experiencing any signs of illness.
The MN Department of Health (MDH) will allow us to adopt a recent change in quarantine guidance from the CDC. Our mitigation team is carefully reviewing this guidance and developing an updated plan as it relates to quarantine. This information will be shared with families soon. Our current policy remains in effect until that time. You can find updates and information related to our school’s safety plan on our COVID Hub.
COVID-19 Vaccinations
During this current surge of cases, it has become increasingly important that we seek vaccination and boosters for as many eligible scholars and family members as possible. The vaccines are safe and everyone aged 5 and up is eligible for vaccination. The FDA and CDC have approved Pfizer boosters for everyone aged 12 and up. The approval for ages 12-15 is new.
For families looking for vaccinations or boosters with doses of Pfizer, our friends who helped us with our clinics will host a vaccination clinic on January 19 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at the Minnetonka Community Center. Families must sign up on Sign-Up Genius.
Hennepin County offers free clinic options for first, second, or booster vaccinations. You can register for an appointment online or by calling their navigation line at 612-348-8900. Help is available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Check back often as events continue to be added. While supplies last, the county is offering $50 Visa gift cards to all people who receive a vaccination.
The Mall of America and MDH still have a vaccination clinic going at the mall. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please click here.
Find more vaccination options near you here.

Guest Teachers Desperately Needed
The nation-wide substitute teacher shortage is also impacting Hopkins Public Schools. We are looking for Guest Teachers to help us when our Hopkins Teachers are absent. It is very easy to become a Guest Teacher.
All that is needed is a college degree and a Substitute Teaching License obtained through the Minnesota Department of Education and is very easy to get. Guest Teachers work up to 8 hours per day and we pay $165 per day. Our Human Resources department will help you obtain a Substitute Teaching License if you are interested in serving in this capacity.
