December Recap
December brought a festive and engaging atmosphere to the Stinson Middle School Library, with a variety of activities capturing the holiday spirit. ELA classes embarked on a literary journey through multiple genres, participating in a book tasting activity. Many students discovered exciting new reads that might have otherwise remained hidden, adding an element of surprise and exploration to their reading repertoire.
ALE students were treated to the enchanting Brothers Grimm fairytale "The Elves and the Shoemaker." In a creative twist, they crafted their own special ornaments, infusing a touch of magic into the holiday season. Emerging Bilingual (EB) students delved into their class novel, "A Long Walk to Water," through an engaging round of The Unfair Game with Mrs. Fosmire, making the learning experience both interactive and enjoyable.
Several advisory classes embraced the holiday spirit with maker space activities, fostering teamwork and collaboration. The library buzzed with festive promotions, including holiday-themed maker spaces where students could design ornaments, build Christmas trees, create winter-themed LEGO constructions, and craft holiday scenes using Play-doh.
A highlight of the month was the gingerbread decorating challenge, where over 250 students showcased their creativity by decorating gingerbread characters as their favorite book characters in exchange for a sweet reward – a candy cane. Coding Club took center stage, hosting Hour of Code activities that catered to students of all skill levels, providing an inclusive space for coding exploration.
Book Club enthusiasts shared the highlights of their Fall semester reads, offering recommendations to peers for the next literary adventure. The library was a hub of celebration with holiday parties, including the faculty luncheon, NJHS, Student Council, AVID, and the office aide appreciation breakfast. December in the Stinson Middle School Library was a month of literary exploration, creative expression, and joyful celebrations.
