Celebrating Mentors
One of the things that is unique and special about the Connect program at Dobie High School is our mentoring program. Each student has a mentor who will be her/his coach, advocate, and confidante. The mentor helps students set goals, create plans, and make good decisions -- the skills of becoming a self-directed learner.
On Monday, or throughout the week, mentees meet 1:1 with their mentors for their weekly check-in. Students drive these meetings to discuss their proposed goals and plans for the coming week, and reflect together on the past week. It is a unique time and space to push students on their Habits of Success and help set them up for success in all aspects of their school experience and college readiness.
What happens during PLT?
What is PLT?
Personalized Learning Time (PLT) is the time during the week that students will focus on learning their content for their courses, such as Algebra, English, World History, etc. At Dobie, student's are engaged in PLT time all day Monday and content specific PLT time throughout the week. - The PLT teacher will provide content workshops and tutoring

PLP Goals Family Meetings Scheduled for October 10th
- Their goals and dreams for the future
- Their current skills, behaviors and motivation
- Their level of commitment to doing whatever it takes to reach their goals and dreams
Based on these reflections, each student chose a type of college they hope to attend and created a proposal on the goals, and actions they’ll need to do to get there.
During the PLP Goals Family meeting:
- Students will present their proposal to their families and mentor
- Students, mentors, and families will together discuss and finalize the proposal
- Mentors and families will support the student in identifying the daily action items needed to achieve their goal
- This experience will be a special time for the student’s biggest advocates and supporters to come together and set the foundation for his/her experience at Summit.
- Check out a playlist of helpful resources on college planning, goal setting, and Habits of Success to help inform the PLP Goals Family meeting.
