2018-19 Winter Update
from Newark Unified School District Educational Services
Dear NUSD Community,
I hope this finds you well and warm.
Spring semester is underway, and though it's COLD outside, the days are getting busy with our students and staff working hard to learn and do more each day.
My team and I gathered the following updates to share with the students, parents, guardians, teachers, staff, community members and leaders who live, learn and work in Newark.
Please let us know what you'd like to hear about in future messages! We can be reached at contact.edservices@newarkunified.org or found at https://www.newarkunified.org/departments/educational-services/.
In community,
Leticia Salinas
Associate Superintendent of Educational Services

California School Dashboard
The California Department of Education (CDE) has introduced a new accountability system for all California schools called the California School Dashboard.
The purpose of the Dashboard is to show school districts, schools and community stakeholders how their schools are performing on state and local indicators. Every December each school district and individual school is assigned a performance indicator based on current year data as compared to data collected the prior year within specific measures identified by the CDE.
We use this information to identify ways our schools can improve.
To find out more about the CA School Dashboard, including what is measured and how Newark Unified School District Schools progressed, please visit the NUSD Dashboard Website.
Parent Learning Events: How Can I Help My Child in Math?
NUSD is hosting parent education events with a Math Specialist from the Silicon Valley Math Initiative (SVMI). The sessions are a wonderful opportunity to provide parents and support providers with strategies and tools to help students in mathematics.
This sessions are open to all NUSD parents/guardians and will be at the District Office from 6:30-8:00pm.
