Hello Parents,
As the semester comes to a close, I would like to thank you for being so supportive and helpful with our class. It seems like the school year just began, so it's a little hard to believe that we will soon be enjoying our winter break. I wish you and your family the most joyous of Decembers!

Dates to Remember:
Pre-AP Outside Reading Mystery Novel
Students are reading The Hound of the Baskervilles or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this six weeks. They will choose to create a Clue style game or a novel soundtrack as their final project. These will be due on Monday, December 7.
On-Level Outside Reading
Students are reading Freak the Mighty. They will complete a project in class over this book on December 7-8. Students should be reading this book now and completing study questions over the chapters each week.
Semester Exam Week
December 14-18
Curriculum Highlights
Unit 3 is over fiction, specifically stories filled with suspense! We will read the short stories The Elevator by William Sleator, and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. Our focus with these will be:
- plot
- characterization
- conflict
- foreshadowing
- tone
- mood
- theme
- providing text evidence to support all of the above
- vocabulary using context clues
Tutoring Hours
Tuesday afternoon 3:40-4:30
Thursday morning 7:50-8:20
Other days and times available by appointment when needed.
