A Note from Mrs. Lackey
This week, our nation heard the final verdict in the Chauvin case, an announcement that stirred various emotions within our community. Please know that at McKelvey, we are committed to creating a safe space for students to ask questions and gain support in an age appropriate manner. We are committed to deepening our understanding of the impacts of racism in our nation, community, and schools and are excited for plans to engage student leaders in this important work next year.
This building will be buzzing on Monday as our virtual classroom teachers prepare refreshed books and supplies for the very last time in this crazy pandemic year. I have been impressed and inspired by how thoughtfully teachers prepare items that will engage and support learners through this final stretch of the year. Thank you, virtual teachers, coaches, TAs, office staff, and all of those who make a huge undertaking look simple!
MAP testing begins this week for our in-person 4th and 5th graders. We can't wait to see how they do! Be sure to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast to fuel those brains in the morning. We've got this!
Enjoy the weekend!

Counselors' Corner
MAP testing begins this week! Here are some ways that parents/guardians can help children do their best:
Encourage them to try their best, but not to stress about the test.
Remind them that they have been preparing for this all year. They are ready!
Help them get a good night’s rest each night before the test.
Serve a good breakfast. Students who are full can focus easier and longer.
Arrive on time. Students will feel more relaxed if they follow their regular morning routine and arrive at school on time.
