Notes from Life Skills Meeting
April 2015
STAAR Alt 2 discussion - led by Jenni Scheppler - Cayuga HS
Start preparation earlier.
Inform campus that you are testing. Ask administrators to inform teachers that state assessments are being administered in your classroom and to not disturb. Alert other teachers by sending out an email and post a note outside door.
Double check the forms for a match when you are entering results in the computer.
Next Year:
STAAR Alt 2 window for 2016: April 4 - 15
Consider a testing location other than the classroom. Be sure to do some practice testing there so the st. is familiar with the environment.
Prepare baskets of materials and manipulatives and mark them as Math, ELA, etc. Incorporate these baskets all year during everyday routines & instruction.
Collect data & samples of student work with and without accommodations and keep in portfolio to validate use of accommodations.
Utilize the subject area vocabulary from the TEA Curriculum Framework.
Grading and Progress Reports - Dee Dietz
Click on this to see the booklet, Grading and Progress Monitoring for Students with Disabilities created by Region 20 ESC. This booklet provides valuable guidance for assigning grades and completing progress reports.

The PowerPoint - Assistive Technology in the Classroom, can be found in the LiveBinder, Life Skills Teacher Resources.
REMEMBER - AT should be discussed with your AT Manager, Director, or Diagnostician BEFORE suggesting to a parent and before an ARD meeting. There may be certain procedures that need to be followed.
