PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Happy Friday Titans,
In this short school week, we accomplished much. We honored our Teacher of the Year, crossed a major bridge and everybody joined a club!
First, Mr. Adam Hardigree and I attended a luncheon hosted by the Historic Roswell Kiwanis Club to honor Mr. Hardigree, our "Teacher of the Year." Thank you to the Kiwanis Club for recognizing Mr. Hardigree and his accomplishments. I also would like to give a BIG "shout out" to Mr. Hardigree for being named, not only Elkins Pointe "Teacher of the Year," but "Teacher of the Year for the Northwest Learning Community."
Thank you to Dr. Duncan, Dr. Brown, and Ms. Snell for planning seamless testing days for our students. Students were assessed using FastBridge Testing, and we know that our students are celebrating the accomplishment of completing these tests. FastBridge replaces STAR Testing from last year, and the results are used as a benchmark to determine growth.
Thursday Clubs began this week and the students were all aflutter with excitement getting connected with their club. Mr. Rodney Jones is the coordinator of placing each and every one of our 1,050 students. It is not a small feat to make sure that each student is accommodated. Thank you to Mr. Rodney Jones for making our students happy by getting them into one of their choices. Clubs are designed to introduce students to a variety of interests and activities which may lead them to a college or career choice. Parents if you would like to contribute to one of our 40+ clubs, please contact Mr. Rodney Jones.
Next week, 6th-grade parents are invited to come to school on September 13th for the 6th grade "Take Your Parents to School Day." Parents, we look forward to seeing you for the first two periods of the day. Also, next week, Elkins Pointe will have our first "Full Release Day" on September 14th. Full Release Days are designed as professional development days. Although your children will not be in school, teachers will be learning innovative ways to engage your children in Personalized Learning.
As Hurricane Irma nears, please stay tuned to the Fulton County website at www.fultonschools.org for any additional updates. Check your email for updates from me or from Fulton County Schools. We have several teachers and staff members who like many of you have family and loved ones who are near or in the line of the storm. Please keep our entire Titan Family in your thoughts as we endure this weather threat together.
Take care and be safe.

Celebrations
Celebrate Mr. Adam Hardigree!
The Roswell Kiwanis Club honored the Northwest Learning Community and Elkins Pointe MS "Teacher of the Year" at a Luncheon!
Celebrate Origami Club!
Look carefully in the photo and you will see the Origami Club holding up their tiny cranes. Origami Club is chaired by Johnson Sensei and Profe Crowe.
Celebrate Team Building!
Sometimes you just have to unplug! Pool party, anyone? Seventh graders returned from the holiday weekend to a Team Building/Problem Solving Challenge in Ms. Lindesay's Business and Computer Science class. Teams challenged each other to create aluminum boats and count how many accent-gems their team's boat could carry before sinking in the water. Students had an opportunity to reflect and revise their designs for the final challenge. All teams improved!
Team 2 (Alejandro, Connor, Andrew, Erin, Rashel, and Mariah) in the 4th period had the most gems (20) in their boat for the day on their second attempt. Before you knew it, the other teams were admiring the design of their boat and cheering them on to break their record! Great teamwork, Career Tech Titans!

❤️ Volunteer ❤️
Picture This!
The PTSA is looking for volunteers to take pictures at various events during the school year. (The pictures that we take are NOT for the yearbook. Elkins Pointe has its own yearbook staff.) Our images will be used for the TV monitors around the school (the students love these) and for Titan Talk. In addition, we need photographers to take pictures of students participating in Roswell Recreation sports and activities to display on this year’s Youth Day Parade float. This will require taking images at the school and at various fields or courts around town.
You must use a digital camera (DSLR) rather than a cell phone to ensure the best quality. And you can sign up for just one event or as many as your schedule permits!
Contact Kim Friedman at kimsmoke@hotmail.com to sign up.

What is Parent University? Parent University Workshops are engagement opportunities for parents to learn how to help your child with academics, get information about high school transitioning, understand how to interpret the curriculum and testing (i.e. GA Milestones, STAR and EOCT), get information about acceleration pathways, learn AVID techniques used at school and get to understand what Personalized Learning means at EPMS.
Parent workshops are offered monthly. Our Title I Parent Liaison offers a variety of workshops, so please read Titan Talk and visit the Title I tab on the Elkins Pointe website.
Presentation materials, i.e. videos, handouts, agenda's, etc. from past Parent University Workshops are available on our website. If you have any questions on past or future Parent University workshop, please email Lisa O'Hanlon Cowles at ohanlon@fultonschools.org.

Community Outreach
Water Wednesdays!
Did you know that approximately 10,000 individuals living in the North Fulton area (Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell and Mountain Park) are either unemployed, underemployed or without basic resources like food, clothing, and shelter? North Fulton Community Charities wants to offer a way to help these families.
Our agency has created a really simple way for you to help. It's called Water Wednesday. For the next 10 weeks (or longer if you wish), we are challenging you to drink only water and donating $5.00 or more to NFCC. It is most likely what you would have spent on coffee, tea or some other beverage and here at NFCC we can put it to good use.
Water Wednesday is a quick and easy way to hydrate your body AND to help others HYDRATE their life. Sign up. Donate.. Tell a Friend...SPREAD THE WORD AND MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
Our goal is to raise $45,000.
Courage to Care
- $50: will pay for 2 weekly MARTA passes for someone looking for work or two tanks of gas
- $100: will heat a home for a month, or provide air conditioning during summer for a frail senior
- $160: covers the GED exam fees for an adult who has been studying hard at the Education Center @ $40 for each of 4 subject modules
