209th EDITION: November 12, 2021

From the Desk of Mr. Mike Shukis

“Am I not here, I who am your mother?

Are you not in my shadow?”

These words were true in 1531 just as they are today in 2021 at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Illinois. Mother Teresa once said, “Stay very close to Our Lady. If you do this, you can do great things for God and the good of people.” We at Marian Central are truly blessed to have Mary, the Mother of our Lord as our patroness and the rock in which we have built our school. We know that Mary watches her school with a smile as her loving eyes take in everything about us, giving us comfort with her strong hands and filling our school with her holiness. In these difficult times we are reminded that we do have the ability to experience a glimpse of the Virgin of Nazareth who gives freely of God’s love no matter how high the cost, who radiates his presence even when we struggle to feel it. She loves God and neighbor joyfully no matter what may come our way.

It may not be easy for many of us, but this Thanksgiving, let us try to celebrate the joyous fruitfulness of Our Lady’s long night of faith that stretched from a crowded Cave to a barren Cross. We at Marian Central should never forget that we are the embodiment of Mary in our midst as we strive to meet our most important goal to develop young souls and their lives in every sense of the word, in the shadow of Our Lady.

Senior Exam Exemptions

The first semester of this school year is ending relatively quickly! We will be providing information about the upcoming exams in the next few Friday Focus editions.

In the meantime, we wanted to provide you with information on second semester's senior exam exemption process. Please review the attached form to make sure that your senior is aware of the three key components to earn an exam exemption in one or more classes second semester... academic, discipline, and attendance.

Please also note some key constraints: Students may NOT be exempt from 1 semester classes or Dual Credit classes.

Attention Bus Riders

With the winter weather creeping in, Durham Bus would like to remind our students to be at their bus stops at least 5 minutes early so that the drivers can leave on time. With the slush and snow, they will not be able to wait. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!

Open House Yard Signs

Thank you to those families who displayed a yard sign to promote our Open House. This year’s event was a success! Since we are planning to update and use the signs again next year, please return the signs to the school at your earliest convenience. Signs can be sent in with your student and dropped off in the office between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Thank you.
