Jane Addams Fall Celebration - October 31, 2022
Students may come in costume and we will have a parade around the outside the grounds of Jane Addams. Your teachers will provide a virtual stream of the event if you are unable to attend. If the weather is poor, we will simply broadcast and have the parade travel inside the school halls on the 31st.
A Fall Celebration will also occur after the party until dismissal at 2:15. If your child would like to opt out of the costume, they may join others in our school library for crafts. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Once again, this is food free event.
District 15 News
The District 15 Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to place a bond referendum on the November 8, 2022 ballot. Doing so will allow the District to repair and restore our facilities, bring full-day kindergarten to all elementary schools, update schools libraries and some learning spaces, and ensure feeder patterns from elementary to junior high and high school providing all student access to a neighborhood or near neighborhood school. To learn even more about the proposed improvements visit www.ccsd15.net/Moving15Forward.
District 15 will host a final informational meeting:

Jane Addams Honors Veterans
Each year, we decorate a Veteran's Day Heart as a symbol of our caring and remembrance. The theme for Veterans Day 2022 is Honor. Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty.
Please consider having your student honor a vet while writing on this heart and returning it to Jane Addams. We send letters each year to a group of Veterans as they travel aboard Honor Flight. The letters are provided as a special surprise to honor a veteran on this flight to DC as he reads his mail call. These letters can be pictures or simply words of thanks to the vet.
Mail call letters will be delivered to the veterans that speak to our 6th grade students at Jane Addams on November 4th. We will provide these letters to those that coordinate the Honor Flight as well as to veterans who speak to the 6th grade students.

Jane Addams Spelling Bee
Each year District 15 students in grades 4-8 at our schools participate in Spelling Bees. Winners progress to their school bees and the winner from each building participates in the District 15 Annual Spelling Bee. This year’s District Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at Walter R. Sundling Jr High's Auditorium (student registration at 6:30 p.m.).
The Scripps National Spelling Bee organization incorporates both spelling and vocabulary components in their competition. At District 15 we also have vocabulary rounds at the School and District levels of competition. Rounds 5, 10 and 15 will be vocabulary rounds. In those rounds, students will be given a word and two choices of the definition. Students who respond with the correct definition will continue on in the Bee.
Jane Addams Spelling Bee will be held in the classrooms and at the Building Level for classroom winners prior to winter break. More information to come.
