Welcome Back Letter From Mr. Bloom
Dear Boehm Families,
I want to officially welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope that you have all enjoyed your summer. We are very excited to welcome students back to Boehm on Monday, August 30th for 6th-grade and Tuesday, August 31st for all grades. We are ready to welcome each of our students back! While we are were hoping for a “normal” opening of school, we know that we are still working through a Global Pandemic. Our goal, as always, will be to keep our students and staff safe as we gear up for the opening of school. We will continue to communicate any updates or changes as they happen. Student schedules and bus stop information for all students are available via Home Access in Pennsbury Home Access Center (HAC). Please understand that we are continuing to adjust schedules. We encourage our families to continue to check HAC as we approach the opening days of school.
We know the opening of school brings a number of emotions to our students and families. We know our students are excited, we know some are nervous, and we know that our families feel the same. As a huge sports fan, I am often drawn to motivational speeches given by individuals to teams. Last week, I had the opportunity to watch a speech that was given to the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. While I will always yell the words, WE ARE, I was drawn to the message that the speaker gave. His message surrounded the phrase, “Get To.” We are so excited that we “Get To” welcome them back to school starting on August 30th. We are so excited that we “Get To” work with your children each and every day. We “Get To” be in front of your children each day with the goal of making them a better learner and a better person. Each student that walks into Boehm “Gets To” make a positive impact on the school community. Each and every student “Gets To” have the chance to grow each day and be a little better than they were the day before. Each child “Gets To” make another classmate’s day better. We can’t wait to see what our students use their “Get To” for! We are going to do all that we can to make this time exciting for each of our students as we get ready to welcome them back to Charles Boehm starting on August 30th for the 2021-2022 school year!
What’s New
You will notice a number of changes that will be implemented at the start of school. We are excited to be able to offer additional math time opposite of gym class to a majority of our students. All students will have gym/health on an every other day basis. Students will no longer be changing for their gym class. We ask all students to wear appropriate attire on the days that they have gym class. Students can always bring a change of shoes that they can keep in their locker throughout the day. Speaking of lockers, students will have full access to their lockers throughout the year. Students will also be permitted to carry a bookbag with them throughout the day. We will continue to utilize Canvas as our Learning Management System. One exciting change is that our teachers will utilize Canvas to show student grades for all class assignments, homework, projects, and assessments. Home Access Center (HAC) will continue to show mid-term progress reports and marking period grades.
Health and Safety
We are committed to mitigation efforts that will minimize the spread of COVID-19, specifically the Delta Variant. Our Health and Safety Plan includes the following mitigation efforts pending school board approval on August 19th:
Required mask-wearing for all students and staff.
Required mask-wearing on school buses (as required by the CDC).
Distances of at least three feet or more will be maintained wherever possible.
Notification and modified contact tracing and quarantining will continue. Details will be shared prior to the start of school.
An alternate lunch location in the auditorium will be available to students who request to be spaced six feet away from other students due to health and safety concerns. Parents/guardians should send an email or write a note to Ms. Conn, our Management Assistant, at jconn@pennsburysd.org to request this location.
Communication
Communication throughout the school year is going to be essential. We will continue to communicate in a variety of ways to ensure our families stay up-to-date with the most important information. Please see the communication methods that will be used throughout the year.
We are in the process of developing an extension to our website that will focus solely on the virtual learning experience that will take place at Boehm. Stay tuned!
