Dear WMS Band Parents
We would like to take the time to Thank all of you for allowing us to teach your students and share our love for music with them. Below you will find actions needing to be taken by ALL Current Band Parents. You will also find answers to many questions that have been asked about Spring Trip refunds, School Instrument Return and School Concert uniform Return and Auditions for Band Placement for the 2020-2021 School Year. Please find the section below that describes your student and follow the links. The Deadline for Refund requests is Friday May 15th. Please also make sure to check your Calendar for May 18th and 19th if you will be needing to return your students School Instrument/Concert Uniform

WMS Athletics Collection/Pick Up Schedule - Final Date
Middle School Athletics will be collecting athletic equipment, clothing and bags issued by the district. Athletics also will be facilitating the pick up of personal athletic equipment left at school by students before buildings closed. May 11 will be the final date for middle school athletics collections/pickups. If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact your student's coach to make arrangements.
If your athlete has a bag that was issued, place everything inside the bag for drop-off. Please be sure to include a note that states your athlete's name and sports played, along with the equipment/clothing being turned in.
Coaches will take all necessary precautions to protect themselves as well as the safety of the parents and athletes during the collection/pick up process.

Social Studies News
7th Grade Texas History - we will continue to create primary sources by documenting how the COVID 19 Virus is affecting our daily lives. Students are able to decide how they choose to document history. Encourage students to try to include new items in their journal. Students will also have an interactive opportunity to explore the bust of the oil industry and parallels to the current oil market.
8th Grade U.S. History - students will focus their pursuit of knowledge through the major people and events of the American Civil War. Students will be given a menu of activities to choose from to complete in order to showcase their mastery of major aspects of the Civil War. Some of these activities involve taking on the role of a reporter investigating a battle during the war to making relevant comparison of Civil War topics to modern day activities students know and love.
Math News
6th Grade: Students will be analyzing data from graphs. Using information from graphs students will be reviewing fraction/percent equivalents.
7th Grade: Students will learn about simple and compound interest while also covering some data analysis.
8th Grade: Students will be studying personal finance. This will have several mini sessions covering topics such as loans (and interest), saving and investments.
Algebra: Students will review the quadratics unit next week before moving on to their final topic: Exponential Functions.
RELA News
7th Grade RELA - students will continue reviewing poetry and figurative language, specifically personification and metaphors. Please continue to check Google Classroom. We will have Zoom meetings every Tuesday and Wednesday to provide mini-lessons for students. Stay healthy and safe.
8th Grade RELA - we will continue to explore our current unit of study: “Finding Your Path” and the essential question: “How do your teenage years prepare you for adulthood?” We will analyze linear and non-linear plot structure and characterization through excerpts from Bronx Masquerade. Students will demonstrate their learning through a reading comprehension/analysis quiz. Please continue to check Google Classroom for important announcements and assignments.
Science News
6th grade Science will kick off the Life Science unit by learning The similarities and differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This unit will encompass the organization of living things as well as the biotic and abiotic components of the earth.
7th Grade Science
Next week we will be studying erosion, deposition, and weathering. Erosion is the process by which natural forces move weathered rock and soil from one place to another. Deposition occurs when the agents (wind or water) of erosion lay down sediment. Deposition changes the shape of the land. Erosion, weathering, and deposition are at work everywhere on Earth.
8th Grade Science
Next week 8th grade will finish out the year on Ecology and Food Webs. Students will be analyzing food webs and how biotic and abiotic things increase and decrease the animal population.
