Important News & Notes
Don't forget, Tuesday, September 15th is Curriculum Night with sessions starting at 4:30 pm, 5:05 pm, and 5:40pm. Teachers should plan to be here from 4:30-6:30pm. Remember, this is a time to go over academic expectations for the year, classroom procedures, and anything else that you feel is important for parents to know and to help them ensure their child has a successful Early 5's or Kindergarten year. Also, if you haven't already, please send me a copy of your presentation by Monday, September 14th.
Constitution Day-September 17th
You you know Constitution Day is September 17th! In honor of this day, Thomson will celebrate with a schoolwide 'Red, White' and Blue' day. Please remember that by law, all classroom must teach the Constitution. Dean Downey our new ELA/Social Studies Coordinator has sent out a couple different emails with links to lesson plans and ideas on how you can teach this in an age appropriate manner. Please remember to send her your plans so that she can ensure that this is being taught. If your PLC team is all doing the same thing, a group email can be sent.
Positive Parent Contacts
This year has really gotten off to a great start! Outside of a few questions from parents, all the interactions with parents that I have had have been overwhelming positive. Due to your efforts, parents feel welcome and have contacted me with positive first days of school stories. The positive parent phone calls that you are making are only adding to the positive culture that exists in our building. These types of gestures help you build strong relationships with your student's parents and will pay huge dividends in the future. Don't forget you should make those first positive contacts by the end of the second week of school.
Homecoming!
As you know, Davison Homecoming is Friday, September 25th and again this year, Thomson will be participating in the Homecoming Parade with kindergartners from Hill and Siple. Please consider walking in the parade with our students as this is another wonderful opportunity for you to connect with your students and their family.
The theme for this years Homecoming is 'Decades'. To celebrate 'Spirit Week' staff decided on the following spirit days for Thomson:
Monday-'Groovin' into Monday-Dancing Through the Decades. We will follow the morning annoucements with the song Twist and Shout from the 1960's and we will end the day with Whip & Nae Nae from 2015. Teachers can play dance songs from various decades throughout the day.
Tuesday-'Jive' on into Tuesday-Wear your favorite sports team's t-shirt, sweatshirt, or colors.
Wednesday-'Chillin' for Workout Wednesday-Break out the leg warmers and wear your workout gear, sweatpants, or comfy clothes.
Thursday- 'Totally Awesome' Throwback Thursday-Bring in your baby photo to share with the class.
Friday-'Spirit Day'-Wear your Teddy Thomson wear, Davison gear, or Maroon and Gold.
Champion for Kids/Star Polisher
You don't need me to remind you of the reasons you are here, but as we enter the second week of school I know that you will continue to build strong relationships with your students. Remember to look for the 'stars' that may be a little 'dented or scratched up' and give them a little extra polish...you may be the only one doing so.
