Social Emotional Learning Spotlight: Zones of Regulation
In addition to our Second Step lessons about Growth Mindset and Goal Setting, every class learned about the Zones of Regulation this month. Zones is a way of talking about the ways our brains and bodies feel. It is a kind of shorthand for sharing how we are feeling. We learn best (but not only) in the Green Zone so as a school we will be practicing a weekly Cool Tool that will help us get back in the Green Zone after our feelings take us into another Zone. We also integrate check ins using Zones language in Morning Meetings, Closing Circle and our daily conversations.
Here are a few questions you could ask at home using Zones Language:
What Zone are you in right now? What Zone were you in MOST today?
What helps you get to the Green Zone?
How could you help a friend or family member get to the Green Zone?
Safety Patrol Starting!
Safety Patrol is starting this month for any 5th grader who has turned in their sign-up form. Safety patrollers are 5th graders who are committed to being a leader in our school. You may see safety patrollers assisting with students and teachers during arrival and dismissal. If you have any questions about Safety Patrol, reach out to Ms. Grayson at 834-7347 or email at vagrays@sunprairieschools.org. We are so excited to start this leadership opportunity for our fantastic fifth graders!

CH BIRD "TRUNK or TREAT" FALL FEST 10/17 2-4 p.m.
Mark your calendars for Sunday 10/17 from 2-4p.m. for our CH BIRD “Trunk or Treat” Fall Fest! To optimize safety instead of being an indoor event like in past years, the event will occur in the back circle of our school near the playground. It will be a drop in event- come anytime between 2-4pm.
We are currently looking for families, businesses and other organizations to host a “trunk.” Hosting a trunk would include decorating your trunk with a theme (school appropriate) and handing out a packaged treat/candy (no homemade baked goods). Trunks would need to arrive by 1:30pm.
Please consider hosting a trunk to make our first Trunk or Treat a success! The more trunks the better!
