updates regarding Covid-19 Response and Inclement Weather
January 6, 2022
Dear Greater Heights Academy School Family:
I hope you’ve had a happy, restful Holiday Season! I wanted to share a couple of updates regarding Covid-19 Response and Inclement Weather.
Covid is on all of our minds as we return from Winter Break. I firmly believe that we must be transparent in how we determine if we need to close our schools due to Covid-19 and move to virtual learning. We look at several factors when making this decision:
Genesee County Dept of Health Guidance
Dept of Education Covid Recommendations
GHA’’s specific data regarding staff and scholar Covid positivity rates
We are blessed to report that as of January 3rd, we do not have any current Covid Positive staff members. Based on the guidance of Genesee County Health Dept, and GHA’s Covid Positivity rate we will have school at this time. We are closely monitoring all data and guidance as it becomes available and making the best decisions based on each new piece of information. Closing schools that do not have a high Covid Rate could potentially increase the number of positive cases. Our school has many different protocols in place to ensure Social Distancing and Mask wearing are taking place. Many scholars at home will have fewer protocols in place to reduce the spread of the virus. We increase the possibility of scholars contracting the virus when not in school and bringing it back into the building upon their return.
It is the time of year for Inclement Weather. We will look at how safe it is for our staff, families and bus drivers to drive to school when determining if we need to close for Inclement Weather. We will do our best to contact you as soon as possible when making a decision to close.
With safety and the education of our children as our priority, we need your help. Please ensure your child does not attend school if he or she is experiencing Covid Symptoms. We must also work together to ensure our scholars are following all guidance: social distancing, wearing masks appropriately, and washing hands frequently. As we enter the coldest time of the year, please make sure your child is wearing his or her coat, hat, and gloves. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
If you have questions or concerns, or you need assistance obtaining a coat, hat, or gloves, please feel free to contact the school at 810-768-3860.
Thank you for all you do to ensure your child’s success!
Sincerely,
Melissa Morris, PLA Regional Director
Richard Thompson, Principal Greater Heights Academy

Dress Code Letter - sent home on Friday November 19, 2021
November 19, 2021
Dear Greater Heights Families,
I want to personally thank you all for entrusting your scholars to Greater Heights Academy Family during their educational journey. We are continuing to build an exceptional learning environment for all scholars and we need your assistance.
We want our scholars to be the best scholars in Flint and we want them to look their best as well. GHA has a scholarly dress code that includes navy blue, black, or khaki pants or skirts, and a collared gray, powder blue, white, or yellow top. Also, sweaters (without hoods) may be worn in any of the colors listed. Scholars can wear any type of shoe as long as their entire foot is covered. This gives the scholars options while still adhering to the scholarly uniform. Students should not wear jeans (unless it is a dress-down day), hoodies, graphic tees, leggings, slide sandals, flip flops, or hats or caps (inside of the building). Lastly, coats will need to be hung in a designated area within the scholars’ classrooms, and may not be worn throughout the day (unless they are going outside for recess).
As of Monday, November 29, 2021, all scholars MUST be in their scholarly uniform every day. We truly thank the parents that have already been diligently ensuring that their scholar(s) were dressed properly. We now need every parent and guardian to assist us in making sure that scholars are dressed for success in their scholarly uniform.
If you have any questions, concerns, or needs, please feel free to call the office.
In partnership with you,
Richard Thompson
Principal
