Physical and Emotional Burdens
By Joshua Decastro
Theses burdens are mainly obstacles that try to through the soldiers off their regular chain of thought and test their courage to keep going with only so little of comfort they have left.
1. Soldiers wrote letters as of way of clinging on to their only connection or memory of home and as a way to cope with the horrors of war.
2. Food and weapons were considered their greatest comfort and the best tools for survival in one of the most brutal conflicts in American history.
In my opinion the novel will cover mostly emotional struggles both physically and mentally for all the soldiers. As evidence of the first chapter in the book, the veterans are surrounded by objects that symbolize their efforts to overcome the burden of war on thier lives.
