Lowell Lantern

Week of April 29--May 03, 2019

Monday is a BLUE DAY for specials.

Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.

Our 3rd and 4th graders completed their ILEARN MATH Assessments this week! We are so proud of their hard work and effort. ILEARN TESTING WILL CONTINUE NEXT WEEK AS STUDENTS WILL START THE ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS PORTION. Please make sure students arrive to school on time every day so we can ensure they have time to complete these important assessments! Thank you for your support!

Tonight is our Spring Fling and Family Dance Night starting at 6:00pm. We hope many of you can join us this evening. Doors open at 6:00pm and the dance will conclude at 8:00pm. We will have dinner available to purchase as well as concessions. There will Bingo in the cafeteria, games for students to play, face painting, and of course a dj and dancing in the gym. The Book Fair will also be open during Spring Fling. As a reminder, this is a family event so students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. It should be a fun night! See you at 6pm!

We want to wish GOOD LUCK to our Lowell Robotics Team as they head to Worlds this weekend in Louisville! We are proud of all of their accomplishments and know they will represent Lowell well at the World’s Competition! Go get ‘em!!

The week of May 6th is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We have the best staff around, and I feel so very fortunate to work with each of them! Take some time to express your gratitude to our teachers and support staff for the great work they do every day!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Griffin

Good Luck to our Robotics Team as they head to worlds this weekend!!!

Students in grades 3 & 4 will begin taking the ILEARN Assessment on Monday, April 22. Students will test for approximately one hour/day over the course of 9 -12 school days. Our students have been working so hard to prepare and WE BELIEVE IN THEM! Our student know that one test does not define them! We simply want students to do their personal best every day! That is what matters the most! Thank you for supporting your children and encouraging them to do their best! Please make sure students are well rested over the course of testing and arrive at school on time every day! Attendance is always important but even more so during this testing window! We appreciate you scheduling appointments around testing so students will be at school every day! Thank you!

The Art Show will be open from Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3, 2019 from 7:00am - 7:00pm. Stop by and see the great work that some of our students have done. Will you be attending Lowell next year?

Although it does't seem possible, within just a few short weeks the 2018-2019 school year will be drawing to a close. In order to facilitate a smooth transition to the next grade for your child, we are asking you to notify our school office if you will NOT BE RETURNING to Lowell for the 2019-2020 school year. Thank you for your help!

Promotions and Rententions

During this time of year, we are once again reminding students the importance of hard work and citizenship at Lowell. Decisions will be made during the next few weeks, regarding grade placement for the 2019-2020 school year. Grade placement is based on many factors, such as academic achievement, work habits, attendance, age, and physical and emotional development. Students will normally progress from grade to grade after demonstrating that they have met academic requirements. A pupil's parent or guardian will be asked to participate in a conference regarding progress and grade placement if retention is being considered. Final determination of a student's promotion or retention will be made by the professional staff at school.

* Students are expected to be at school on time every day. Our tardy bell rings at 8:40am. Please plan accordingly to ensure your child is in his/her classroom by 8:40am each day.

* If your child will be absent due to illness or late due to a doctor's appointment, please call the front office at 317-532-3900 to report the absence or late arrival. This helps to ensure your child's safety. Please bring a doctor's note to document the excused absence.

* Dismissal is at 3:40pm. If you are picking up your child from school, please follow our car rider procedures.

* When arriving at Lowell, please make sure you stop first at the front desk. All visitors MUST sign in and put on a Lowell Badge while in the building. Safety is our top priority for our students. This process allows us to ensure every child's safety during the school day. Thank you for your cooperation.

* Parents are always welcome at Lowell! If you would like to visit your child's classroom, please call or email your child's teacher or Mrs. Griffin so we can make arrangements and ensure that the students will be in the classroom at the time of your visit. We encourage you and welcome you to always be a part of your child's learning, and we truly value your involvement!

* Please remember that our Lowell Campus is a smoke-free campus. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on Lowell grounds. This includes smoking in your cars while on the Lowell Campus.
