September Winchester Newsletter
Welcome back students, parents, and teachers!
From the Desk of the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome Back! I hope you have had an enjoyable summer. The children have certainly had lots of exciting stories to share.
I know you will continue to work with us so that your child can grow in confidence, with a love of learning, and a determination to be the best person they can be. We are all busy people, but you must put a routine in place whereby children know they must do their learning – homework, reading etc…
Can you ensure that, as parents and guardians, you put a great value on school and education? Explain to your child that treating everyone with respect, being on time and in school everyday, wearing the correct uniform, and working hard in school is important to you. These are also important life skills. The value you place on these will be the value your child holds. We in school will do everything we can to help your child to do their best. Let us know if we can support you in any way. Remember that we operate under an open door policy – feel free to book an appointment with your child’s teacher if you have concerns or need support, help or advice. Your children are your most important gift; treasure them, help them, guide them and support them – this time is crucial, so do it now. Please make sure you track your child’s grades and discipline on the database. If you need the information on how to do so, please contact Mr. Caliskan at mcaliskan@sememphis.org. I look forward to another successful year.
PS: If you have not checked out the TN Ready report for the high school, they are great.

Testing Announcements & Times
Wow! We are six weeks into the school year and college readiness testing will begin on October 1st. All seniors will participate in ACT testing. Testing will begin promptly at 8AM. Our current class average is 17.5%. Seniors and instructors have been working hard attending our ACT Blitz on Saturdays to prepare for testing. Our goal is to increase our ACT class average to 21%. All juniors will participate in ASVAB testing on this date as well. ASVAB testing will begin at 8:30. This testing is used to help us prepare juniors for the ACT, which they will take in the Spring. It also helps us with planning as we assist students as they navigate through career choices. Juniors will also participate in PSAT testing on October 3oth. If juniors perform well on the PSAT, they enter into the National Merit program and can be eligible for thousands of dollars in college scholarships. We are confident that all of our students will preform well on these college readiness exams.
Please be aware of the following testing dates for current juniors and seniors:
- October 1st - Senior ACT Retake and Junior ASVAB testing
- October 30th - PSAT Juniors
Test Preparation Tips:
- Get a good night's sleep.
- Eat a healthy breakfast on test day.
- Concentrate on being calm and mentally accessing the information you have already studied.
- Arrive to school on time.
- Remain positive!
