APRIL 5, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
The American College Test (ACT) continues to be the preeminent college admission test for most colleges in the Midwest. Yesterday, our 11th graders took the ACT at school, and we were able to create an ideal testing environment for them thanks to your support.
Tomorrow, we welcome more than 100 business and industry partners to Spring Lake Park High School for our second annual career fair. Our students will have the opportunity to interact with and learn about a wide array of career fields and job opportunities. This year’s event is even bigger than last year and we are excited for the exposure to career paths students will experience tomorrow. Please ask your student about their experience tomorrow evening.
I have a few shout outs today:
- Our Robotics team competed in the First Robotics state competition this past weekend and they made it into the finals! So proud of our Robotics team and the staff advisors and community volunteers that contributed to this success.
- Last week we highlighted our FCCLA students who competed at their State Meet with four students advancing to Nationals in July. We also had two students compete for regional officer roles and were elected as Vice President and Treasurer.
- On National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day today, I recognize all the care, compassion, and professionalism our paraprofessionals model each day at while supporting our students and the school community. They are truly difference makers for students on a daily basis!
- This week is also National Assistant Principals Week, and I get the opportunity to work alongside two inspirational and deeply committed colleagues who work tirelessly to support students and staff in creating the conditions for improving student outcomes – Megan Jahnke and Steve Brady. Thank you!
We packed a lot into this 4-day week. Please remember there is no school on Friday, April 7. Enjoy the long weekend!
As we look out to next week please mark your calendar for our last early release day of the school year, next Friday, April 14. Students conclude classes on by 1:10 p.m. on early release days. We will include more information in next newsletter.

Spring brings 'farm to school' meals
Our schools are cooking up exciting new recipes. Kitchen managers have been working the Healthy Roots Institute system to build a sustainable school food program that bolsters the skills of kitchen teams and adds tasty, healthy flavors to menus.
Just in time for March’s National Nutrition Month, Spring Lake Park Schools nutrition services staff teamed up with Healthy Roots Institute to add some new pizazz to the school menu. After the March training, staff is gearing up to bring these new flavors to student diners. Read the story to learn more and see photos of the recipes in the making.
Spanish Immersion learning at Spring Lake Park Schools
Spanish Immersion learning is a unique feature of Spring Lake Park Schools. Immersion learning begins as early as preschool and continues through grade 12. Last spring, the first graduates to begin their immersion journey in kindergarten here graduated as part of the Class of 2022. Take a look at the evolution of immersion learning across schools and grade levels to better understand the journey to becoming a bilingual and biliterate graduate.
