Counselors at Work

With Covid and the shelter in place things changed quite a bit for counselors and the work that we were performing. We have spent a whole lot of time sending canvas messages, emailing, making phone calls, and doing all that we can to reach out to students and families. With everyone's help, collectively, we have been able to maintain a high level of connectedness with our student.

End of Year...hard to believe

I don't know if this is true for you as well but at the end of every school year the thought, "wow that year flew by" always comes to mind. Along with that thought, there may be additional thoughts and feelings that we have as we reflect on the year. If you were to sum up with year with one word, what word would that be? For me, the one that repeatedly comes to mind regarding this school year is Change. But why change? Well, let's take a look. We started this year after a shortened summer break due to a new calendar, we had a new principal along with other new staff members, staff members that were once a part of our team (and had been for a while) parted ways for other schools, we began implementing e-learning days this year, the county rolled out a new accountability model, and so on.... and then everything changed with Covid! I can't think of any other year where so much change took place in such a short amount of time.

While reflecting on all of the changes that took place this year, it quickly becomes apparent that our school staff is just plain awesome! We adapted to all of the changes, used creativity, found the grit to persevere through challenges, and we continued to stay focused on our students and families the whole time. It wasn't easy, but we are almost crossing the finish line. This was my first year at CGMS and it has been one of the best that I have had as a counselor. I am honored to be a part of the CGMS family and look forward to next year and being back in the building once again.

American School Counselor Association- Code of Ethics

One responsibility of School Counselors is to provide staff members with information about the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics. In addition to this, we can help to clarify any questions or concerns related to our Ethical Code. Feel free to take a gander at your leisure.
