#CelebrateMonday
February 5, 2018
On days like today I truly believe we have two choices: we can embrace the brisk air as it stings our ears, noses, cheeks, and fingers and use that to create our own warmth as we remember that we are alive and can feel, and we can use it to appreciate the warmth that will be here again in the spring.
OR
we can grumble, shake our fists at the cold weather, complain and likely just continue to feel cold since we are not actively involved in creating our own warmth.
It's all about perspective!
But did you know, that Governor Greitens has declared the month of February in 2018 to be "Lifelong Learning Month"??
Isn't that awesome? Take a look:
How can we possibly encourage lifelong learning for our students if we aren't willing to model it ourselves?
And I don't mean attending a workshop or conference every once in a while. I mean really good, really meaningful, ongoing learning!
- Participating in Twitter Chats (#moedchat, #leadlap, and #leadupchat are great! Or for a quick chat - try #Betheone it's 2 questions and 15 minutes on Wednesdays at 7:45pm).
- Connecting on Voxer - I am connecting with some groups of leaders throughout the country on this tool. If you are interested in learning about it - let me know!
- Reading books- You can always see what I am currently reading in the signature of my email. I'm in The Speed of Trust right now. My next read is When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing. I'll be doing this as a book study with educational leaders from all over. I'm very interested in starting a book study with WSD leaders and lead learners using Voxer (so we don't have to meet face to face) - if you are interested, too - let me know! I'm trying to do more reading and the accountability of book studies is helpful!
- Reading blogs - I like to try to find blogs that will support and also stretch my thinking. Frequently I read what I see tweeted by people I love on Twitter.
- Go to an Edcamp - EdcampSTL is this Saturday - if you have the time I highly recommend it https://www.eventbrite.com/e/edcampstl-tickets-38528581023. St. Charles School District is also hosting one on 4/14: tinyurl.com/edcampscsd
- Engage in learning outside of your box - we all have learning we must do to be good and get better at our jobs. What kind of learning are you engaging in that goes beyond the requirements of your job?
There are many ways we can continue our learning - and often we can engage in learning together which makes it much more fun.
So take a few moments and thinking about learning. How are you a lifelong learner (or are you??)?
How are you encouraging your teachers and staff to engage in lifelong learning?
And have fun - learning is supposed to be a good time!
Today, #CelebrateMonday by celebrating all of the ways in which you are currently a lifelong learner and challenge yourself to add or try something new or different!
And don't forget to make this the best Monday of the week!
Cheers!
