ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station)
What's all the excitement about?
As we look to implement the new 2020 science and social studies standards across all grades, the 5th grade team decided on a year-long space exploration unit that aligns closely with our Global Outcomes. Every year there is a call for schools to submit their proposals to experience communicating with our International Space Station (ISS). This is a highly competitive opportunity and is offered to schools worldwide. The last time a school in Colorado was chosen to take part in this experience was in 2011. We are thrilled to announce that our team's proposal was 1 of 10 accepted across the U.S. to be granted the honor of taking part in this exciting partnership.
We are very thankful for the Estes Valley Amateur Radio Club and the Estes Park Memorial Observatory for assisting us with this very special day. You can learn more about their clubs at: http://evarc.org/ and http://www.angelsabove.org/.
In the meantime MANY more details will be worked out and shared in the months to come. We know our ISS communication will happen during the last week of February 2021, with our 5th grade classes leading the work. All grades levels will have the chance to submit a question to be asked during our live contact. We are so excited for this amazing opportunity and look forward to sharing this experience with you all.
