Welcome New Staff Member
Dear Families of 6th Grade Students,
It is with great excitement to introduce our newest member of the West Orient Staff, Ms. Madison Plummer. She will be replacing Mrs. Moffat as the 6th grade science teacher for the remainder of the school year. Mrs. Moffat has been substituting since the beginning of this school year until we were able to find a permanent replacement.
Ms.Plummer is a Sam Barlow High School graduate and comes to West Orient with a strong background in the sciences. She has a Bachelor Degree in Science with a Minor in Biology from Portland State University and a Master of Science degree in Conservation Biology from The University of West Alabama.
Ms. Plummer is passionate about the sciences. Her background in science includes various academic studies such as biology, science education, zoology, geology, oceanography, geography, research, and many other conservation topics.
Ms. Plummer will be at West Orient Middle School this week observing, working with staff and teachers on the 6th grade team, and completing her orientation. Ms. Plummer will officially begin teaching in the classroom on October, 11.
I have no doubt that Ms. Plummer will be a great addition to our school and community.
Updated Information for 6th Grade Outdoor School
Multnomah Education Service District has finalized the 2021-2022 Outdoor School schedule. They built a schedule that supports a 6-day Outdoor School experience. This year they are providing a 2-part hybrid option for students. Every student will receive the same number of days (6), but it will be split into two parts over the year.
Fall 2021
Days 1-3, the Outdoor School Program staff will come to West Orient Middle School and work with our students on our school grounds, (Oct 11, 12, 13).
On Monday morning students will get an introduction and overview of the Outdoor School Program from the Outdoor School program staff.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will attend two, 2-hour sessions of Outdoor School Programming, one session in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
Lunch will take place each day as usual at the usual times. Please plan for student lunches as you normally would.
Classes and activities over the three days may take place outdoors, as they would at the Outdoor School sites. Students should plan to wear appropriate rain gear and warm clothing each day. The weather forecast predicts some rain each day, so being dressed appropriately will make a huge difference for the experience of students on these days.
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for November 12. Students can bring their order form and money with them on picture day or parents can order online from Lifetouch.
