Highlights from the Week of January 4-8, 2019

Our Walker Wildcats have been busy this week.
  • EAST and G.T. hosted parents for a night out. It was a great time for these students to get to teach their parents and grandparents about the technology they are using every day. The 2nd-grade G.T. students performed two plays. A great time was had by all!
  • Lunch with dads provided a time for dads to come and have lunch with students. We had many dads come to school for lunch.
  • Father/Daughter dance provided a night out with dad for our Walker girls. Fun was had by all.

Here's what's happening this week at Walker Elementary:

February 11 PTA meeting 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the library

February 11 2nd grade program 6:00 p.m.

The Importance of School Attendance by U.S. Department of Education

As early as elementary school, students who miss just two school days each month are more likely to fall behind in reading, writing and math, even if the absences are excused. While some challenges to a child’s attendance are unavoidable, it’s important to understand the impact of each absence.

A student is chronically absent if he or she misses only two days of school per month (18 days per year). Even one year of chronic absence can cause a child to fall behind academically and decrease a child’s chances of graduating from high school, which can have long-term consequences on their financial independence, physical well-being and mental health.

Parents can prepare their children for a lifetime of success by making regular school attendance a priority and understanding the reasons for their child’s absences. Learn more and find help at http://www.AbsencesAddUp.org.
