Mariner Update Parent Edition
Volume 12 Issue 25
Message to families
Mariner Family,
As we enter month number 8, of our 2022-2023 school year, I would like us to remind each other to take the time to reflect on all that you have accomplished with your child, your student. Reflect on how much progress they have made in their academic and social-emotional learning. It is important that you are taking the time to reflect on the positive impact that you are having on your child. Teaching a child, raising a child is an enormous responsibility and we are fortunate that you choose to partner with our school, Innovative Horizons, to support your child in their every day learning and development.
I want to thank all students, all parents, all teachers, all counselors, all staff members, Ms. Johnson and our African American Alliance Parent Committee for contributing to the awesome learning through activities and special events during Black History Month. All students were able to participate in activities and lessons throughout the month of February and we know that education is the key to bringing us together, consistently, and reminds us that we all belong to each other and that we are all more the same then we are different. Let’s continue to celebrate our students consistently, and to celebrate them together. That’s a good thing.
Attendance Reminder. Education is the best gift you could give to your child. To strengthen the success of this gift, get your student to school each day. If you are late, we still want them here. Do not stay home if you are running late. Being on time is very important, but we do not want any student staying home because they are running a little late. The goal each year is to strive for perfect attendance and never miss more than five days in a school year. Our attendance slogan is, STRIVE, AND NOT MORE THAN 5!
Mariner Family, remember that we are here to serve our students and families each day. You and your child are important to us. Call the front office and ask for assistance in communicating with your child’s teacher, our counseling team, and our administrators when needed.
In Partnership,
Mr. Candelaria

Transitions
Students will be transitioning to middle school and high school in the following months. In January we did a presentation for 8th grade students to prepare them for the decisions they will need to make in order to transition successfully to high school. In addition, we hosted Nuview Bridge and Perris High schools. They held assemblies for our 8th graders to learn about the programs and electives they offer. In May, we will be giving a presentation to 5th graders to prepare them to become middle schoolers. Transitioning can be exciting and stressful but is a right of passage for all students in the US. Make sure you support your student through this process by staying up to date with all the latest information about the schools your students will be attending. Feel free to reach out to us via email if you have any questions or concerns about your child's transition.
