Dear Lakeland Parents and Guardians,

A HUGE THANK YOU to the Lakeland PTA and all of the Lakeland families for a fabulous Staff Appreciation Week! We were so spoiled! We truly enjoyed our trip around the world. We started our Monday with the " Welcome Aboard Bobcat Air" and ended with the "Destination Thank you"!

Parent Drop-Off and Parent Pick-up

Dear Lakeland Families,

We have had several families express they cannot back out of their parking stall in the morning and afternoon because cars are blocking them in. Again, the large parking lot is for PARKING ONLY. There is a sign posted at the parking lot entrance that says, "No Drop-off, No Pick-up".

The farthest north lot on 32nd Ave S. is our parent drop-off and parent-pick-up lot. In the morning, this lot is the quickest and safest way to drop off your scholars. You can drive right in, drop-off and drive right out!

In the afternoon for parent pick-up, this lot is also our safest for pick-up. Does it back up? Yes. However, our amazing paraeducator, Melissa Carr knows who's car belong to which scholar. She keeps everybody on task and get the line moving very quickly.

Lastly, the road behind Lakeland Elementary is a Service Road ONLY. This road is for district vehicles and emergency vehicles only. DO NOT drop-off, pick-up or park on this road.

If you have any questions regarding our parent drop-off and pick-up procedures, please call the Lakeland office at 253-945-3000. Thank you.

In Partnership,

Hello Lakeland Families!

As I’m sure you’ve seen, we’re getting new perimeter fencing installed at our school. This is one of the safety improvements that our school is able to receive thanks to voter approval of the phase 2 construction bond a few years ago.

With safety at the forefront, this ensures that Lakeland Elementary is fully secure during the school day.

Thank you voters!

Picking up your scholar early?

We understand that sometimes scholars will need to be picked up early for many different reasons. Our goal here at Lakeland is to keep our scholars in class when here at school. If you will be picking your scholar up early, please come to the office and we will call him/her down to the office. If you see your scholar on the playground or outside while walking up to the school, please do not wave them in. We will call them in and get them ready as quickly as possible. We have had occurrences when we couldn’t find a scholar because they have been waved in off the playground by their parent. Our recess paraeducators pride themselves in knowing all of our scholars and making sure they are kept safe on the playground.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work together to keep our scholars safe and accounted for here at Lakeland.

Attendance Corner with Mrs. Torres-

Families lets end our year off strong and make every day count! We have less than a month of scheduled school days for the school year. For the month of April we had 65.9% of scholars with 90% attendance or higher. That is 269 scholars meeting their attendance goal!

Attendance is a predictor of scholar success, and can impact scholars’ academic progress as early as kindergarten.

Used, Clean, Good Condition, Youth Size Clothes are Needed for the Health Room!

Hello Lakeland Parent's and Guardian, Lakeland is in need of some used, clean, good condition, youth size clothes for the health room. Spring is almost here (March 20th)! With that, it does come with rain. We have many scholars that fall during recess, or get soaked from the rain or maybe spill some milk at lunch and we have no clothes for our scholars to change into. Sweats and t-shirts work best because one size can fit several. We always tell our scholars it's a good idea to keep a change of clothes in there backpack just in case! We appreciate any donations and thank you for your help!

SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS

Due to inclement weather and school closure on Thursday, December 1st and Tuesday February 14th, FWPS will make these days up on June 20th and 21st. Making up these days will ensure our scholars have access to the learning and instructional time needed to support their academic success. Please see the updated school calendar below. Thank you.

Reminders From The School Nurse:

Reminders from the Health Room:

· Please make sure your scholar has a water bottle for school and track if they are participating. The weather is starting to get warmer, and it is important your scholar stay hydrated throughout the school day.

· Remember scholars cannot have any medication at school without a doctor’s order and parent permission per WA state law. Even over the counter medication. These things must be in place prior, and a parent must bring in the medication to have it checked in.

o Medication must also come in the original container with prescription label on it (or have the scholars name on it for over-the-counter medications).

· If your scholar has medication at school, please be aware medications need to be picked up on the last day of school. You will need to sign the medication out with the health room or office staff unless other arrangements have been made. Any medications left over the summer will be disposed of.

· Many scholars will need immunizations over the summer to stay up to date. You can access your scholar’s record at any time by signing up for MyIR at https://wa.myir.net/register.

o Many scholars need immunizations currently. Letters have gone out as well as notifications by the district and on Remind. If you need resources or have any questions, please reach out.
