September 9th, 2019 #Work Hard, Poupard!
Dear Poupard Families,
Dear Poupard Families,
It has been a wonderful first week of school. Our students and teachers have been busy building relationships, establishing the routines of the classroom and expectations of the classroom and discussing how to be a great classmate.
The beginning of the year provides an opportunity for learning to be supported at home as well. The most important thing we as educators recommend is that students spend time reading at home, preferably (15-20) minutes. Research shows that students that spend time reading at home learn thousands of new words each year.
This week, we completed our first fire drill of the year. Our students did an outstanding job following their teachers directions to get in line and outside to their designated areas. We will practice four more of these throughout the year. Please let me know if your learner has anything you'd like for us to keep in consideration as we navigate through our drills this year.
This upcoming Tuesday, we have our first PTO meeting of the year. Our PTO meeting starts at 6:30 and will be held inside the gym at Poupard. There is no cost in joining the PTO and we welcome all parents. The PTO offers free babysitting for kids ages 5 and up and a light snack. Come and join us on the 10th at 6:30 to see how you can get involved and support your learners school.
I want to thank families that were able to attend our Back to School Open House earlier this week. Our teachers loved getting a chance to meet you face to face and learn about your student. Please keep an eye out for additional information from them via email and class dojo in the coming days.
I look forward to continue meeting new families in the coming weeks! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 313-432-4804 or alih@gpschools.org.
Thanks for partnering with Poupard in your child's learning!
