Roberts and Rogers Update
January 27, 2017
Reading
This week we played main idea football to help us practice finding the main idea. We also read the story, TRAIN TO SOMEWHERE, about a girl who was left at an orphanage and then put on an "orphan train" to go out West to find new "parents". We will continue to read other stories about this true event in American history.
Math
The class has started a math project where they design a community. There are several "zoning ordinances" they have to follow. The community has to be 1/10th water, no more than 2/5ths pavement, and 1/2 of the buildings have to be houses. The goal is to add a bit of fun and rigor to the study of fractions.
I'm not give problem solving this week. Each student has their own individualized homework. MGSD has a program called I-Ready that tests kids mid-year on their progress. This program also generates suggestions on what each kid needs to work on. Based on the suggestion from the program each one of my students has 3 assignments to complete--around 20 questions. Feel free to help you child if need be. These are all topics that have been taught.
