Instructional Coaches Notes
Lesson Design
When we write lesson plans we want to ensure that our plans:
- are aligned to standards
- include aligned assessments
- intentionally include evidence-based instructional practices
- intentionally plan for the differentiated needs of the learners
Thinking about evidence-based instructional practices, lessons should include an opening (hook, activate prior knowledge, and learning target), lesson with teaching moves (explicit instruction, non-fiction writing, technology integration, etc.), and a closing (formative assessment, a preview of next lesson, independent work, etc.).
Make a plan for those students that already know the target (pre-assessment data) and for those students that still don't know it (after formative/summative assessments).
