A Note From the Principal

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of the first semester. We have had so many wonderful experiences here at Central.


One of the areas we have been working on this semester is our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. Our program is rooted in Central character and the idea that Champions Make Choices and Choices Make Champions. Our faculty was involved in creating and defining a Central CHAMPS student. The following defines what it means to be a CHAMPS student.

Caring

Honest

Achievement

Making good choices

Prepared to learn

Safety

Furthermore, we have defined our Central Champs expectations in all areas throughout our school. In a continued effort to recognize our students making good choices as well as build our climate and culture, we are going to begin our school-wide incentive program using Brag Tags. In January, all students will receive a necklace and a Central tag to start with to be worn every Friday. This is a way to acknowledge the hard work and positive behavior of our students. Additional tags will be awarded one time a month.


We will include perfect monthly attendance and CHAMPS tags. As we improve our program we are looking for ways to add more tags. With this in mind, we have added some more "fun" to our Central Celebration. We are incorporating more student involvement and adding specials awards. Although the students will receive many of the same awards, the way they will be delivered might look a little different. Please note it will take place in the afternoon on January 13th from 2:15-3:15.


When we return in January, we will revisit our Central Expectations with our students. The expectations will be in the form of a matrix and will be hanging in each classroom. All along our students have been champions, but now we are defining what it means to be a Central CHAMPS student in a more formal manner.

Santa Shop Information--December 12-16th

Once again, our PTO will host a Santa Shop for students who would like to secretly purchase gifts for their friends and family members. As always, every item in the shop is only $1.00! This is a completely optional activity for any family choosing to participate. Please talk with your child ahead of time so he/she knows whether to look for gifts. Thanks to all those who volunteer with this event to help make shopping go smoothly for our children!

Bundle Up!

Children will be expected to go outdoors for recess when the temperature and wind chill is 20 degrees Fahrenheit and above. Students will not go out if it is raining or sleeting. It also says that if your child must stay indoors because of illness during recess time, we ask that you write a daily note requesting that your child stay inside. Repeated requests for indoor recess will prompt the nurse to require a written statement from the family doctor concerning the request.

PTO Sponsored Read-a-Thon

Get ready to take a bite out of Central Elementary’s Read-a-thon Fundraiser this January. Students will have the opportunity to participate in this two week long event promoting a love of reading, while raising funds to help provide classroom grants for the direct benefit of our children. All participants will be invited to a celebration including bounce houses and the Pacer Fan Van, with additional prizes for the top reading and fundraising classes.

Watch for more information to come home during the week of January 9th.

Changing the End of the Day Transportation Routine

The following information is simplified from our handbook:




  1. If your child is to go home a way different than their normal arrangement, you must send in a note to the teacher with instructions as to how the child is to go home.
  2. Please make these arrangements before school or by 1:00 p.m. at the latest.
  3. If you call requesting that your child become a car rider, you are required to come into the school office to sign out your child. Your child will be waiting in the office lobby until you sign them out.
  4. If you call requesting that your child ride a bus home instead of being a car rider, we will need to verify that we are speaking to the child’s parent/guardian
  5. Finally, please note that e-mail notifications of changes for the end of the day ride home will not be accepted.

Car Riders

Overall, we have been doing a wonderful job with drop-off and pick-up. We have not had any complaints from the Plainfield Police Department about us blocking US-40. There are just a couple of reminders:


  • Please do not drop off students before 8:30 a.m. We do not have supervision available.
  • Continue to pull all the way around the half-circle. If you need to buckle your children, we ask that you stay in your car until you can pull all the way forward to the spots right before Wabash.

Thank you very much for making this process as smooth as possible!

Join in this participatory story by Ed Emberley, in which a not-too-scary monster is built and after,'You don't scare me!,' dismantled. Each child will build their own colorful monster to take home.

Join us in the Children's Activity Room for some simple, fun, and hands-on science experiments! This month we're going to use chemicals to make colorful reindeer toothpaste and growing Christmas trees to take home.

Hear and touch this book (with raised spider web) then make a spiderweb with yarn. Then put in a small plastic spider!

Three times a month, come sing, dance, do action rhymes, and hear a story at a storytime geared for young children.

Your child can make a collage of cold-looking bits of multi-textured paper, foil, and cotton in this 'process craft.'
