The Foxtail Wyvern

The wyverns are the descendants of dragons and many people do not understand that they are very different creatures. Dragons have been the most powerful beasts since the beginning of time, and they can live for thousands and thousands of years (as long as they aren’t killed, which is hard enough as it is). Their scales are impenetrable, and they have wings that can carry them over great distances at amazing speeds. When it comes down to it, dragons are everything you would expect them to be. They are all powerful, they have control over many of the elements, and they aren’t a creature one should mess with. However, the most powerful dragons were killed by humans, so natural selection took its course. Today, it is believed that there are only a few of the ancient, or traditional, dragons left. Most of the remaining population is a new breed of dragons called the Wyvern. They are still powerful, but they are a very different creature.
Despite most wyverns are gentle, friendly and smart, the foxtail wyvern is very timid and defensive. As a result, it is not discovered until the 13th century. It is very powerful and in fact, it is the most deadly wyvern breed of all. However, it has bad eyesight and is often hunted. On the other hand, their disadvantages are outweighed by their cherished beauty and cunningness.

Even though the foxtail wyvern is known to be the week, it is dangerous in its own way. Its beauty sets a trap for its pray and it's agility allows it to hunt creatures stronger than itself and the feature that kept this species alive is its life-threatening venom: the nightshade or the black henbane.

Shown below are a few pictures of Wyvern as compared to dragons. The first difference you’ll notice is the legs; dragons have four legs while Wyvern only has two. The front legs of the Wyvern are fused to its wings, very much like arms. This makes the Wyvern easier to attack since it cannot move its wings away when it wants to use its talons to attack (one hit to the arm doubles as a hit to the wing). However, the foxtail has replaced its venomous skin on its wings/arms with scales. The poison that sinks in had turned its skin green and acted as a camouflage in the forest.

Charlie Weasley's Quotes

"A dragon post was probably inevitable, right? They’re one of the most popular mythological beasts, and they’re abundant in literature and movies. Since everyone is already so familiar with dragons, I’ve decided to focus on their lesser known ancestors: the Wyverns."

"Wyverns have limited powers, and they are much smaller than ancient dragons. However, don’t be fooled; the foxtail wyvern is so deadly that it doesn't need to be athletic."

"The foxtail wyvern is nature's work of art; it is agile, smart but lethal with poison, so it is best to try and stay away from it,"

"Wyverns are not as powerful as ancient dragons, but I still think they’re pretty cool. They’re fast, and I feel like that would make them fun to ride. Well, maybe not… knowing my luck, I would probably fall right off."

The foxtail wyvern lives in south-east Asia, where the land is moist and warm and is neighbouring with the nagas' (a type of basilisk) lands. They like to live deep in the venom mountains in groups so they can hunt together. Also, they build their nests on mountain cliffs since they can become airborne faster and their predators find it hard to climb up a cliff.

Below are a map of where wyverns live and the numbers of species that lives there.

Eating habits

Foxtails love to feed on fish and poison mangos and is intelligent enough to identify which plants are safe to eat. They also have to inhale some poison to change the way they smell and keep the predators away. wyverns are not fussy eaters and are very greedy so they often attack animals larger than themselves.
