Community Crew News #11
October 22, 2023
Greetings Conway Community,
As an Expeditionary Learning School, our model is grounded in 10 Design principles. Collaboration and Competition challenges us to teach so as to join individual ad group development so that that the value of friendship, trust, and group endeavor is made manifest. Encourage student to compete, not against each other, but with their personal best and with rigorous standards of excellence. Our Community den day was an EPIC day to come together as an entire school community in the spirit of collaboration and competition (Design Principle 6). In the past we have held either one or two community events during the year. In fact, the last one was in 2019! Our school came together in the true CREW Spirit and appreciate all our staff, volunteers, and students for making this an EPIC day. See photos of this EPIC day here - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VN-l42O80PVq2B3RCQirneDa5RArAE93?usp=share_link
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
Always in crew,
Tina Meglich, Principal

Meet Mrs. Cassou
Meet our new librarian, Mrs. Cassou
Greetings! My name is Victoria Cassou, and I look forward to starting my new position as the School Library Technician for Conway! My family and I moved to Escondido from Billings Montana this April. I grew up in Montana; my husband and I met at Montana State University in Bozeman, and our two children were born in Billings. I have a BA in Graphic Design with a minor in Museum Studies and am currently enrolled in a Masters of Education program through Western Governors University out of Utah. Before moving to California I worked as a Reference Librarian for the City of Billings Public Library, and before that I was an Assistant Children's Librarian for the same public library. My hobbies include hiking with my dog, camping with my family, fly fishing, reading, painting and exploring new things with my children. I am excited to get to know the rest of the staff and students at Conway and be a positive addition to your school!
Earth Day Poster contest!
The City of Escondido Earth Day Poster contest is back! Last year one of our own 3rd grade students took third place and was recognized at a reception in downtown Escondido. Start thinking about how your student can participate.
Birthday Announcements
You may ask how do we celebrate birthdays at Conway?
We have two unique ways that we celebrate.
First, in the main office you can fill out a form to have your child's birthday acknowledged on our electronic marquee to display a 24 hour message. The cost is only $5. If you cannot make it into the office, you can complete the electronic form https://forms.gle/3dMLHhiK5MTXJdpL9
and send in $5 cash or check made payable to Conway ASB, and send it in with your learner. If it is a surprise please put it in an envelope addressed to the Conway ASB.
Second, our office staff has added a fun way to acknowledge each student's birthday. Students can visit the office for a special birthday pencil and cougar paw.

Costume Parade is back.
Our annual EPIC parade is set for Tuesday, October 31st, 2023. Immediately following the morning blacktop line-up. Students should arrive at school dressed in their E.P.I.C costume over their regular school clothes to preserve their costume for evening events. Student participation is voluntary.
Students make sure to arrive at school on time. Following the parade, teachers will take morning attendance. Parents and families are invited to watch this EPIC tradition along the perimeter of the route. Immediately following the event, parents are asked to exit campus.
TK and Kindergarten will follow their own route starting at the primary playground out to the field . 1st through 6th will parade around the large blacktop area following the blue line. We will begin with the youngest students, 1st grade will lead, followed by 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.
Just a reminder, that EUSD Wellness Policy prohibits treats high in sugar to be consumed at school, therefore, keep the candy at home. Let’s make it an EPIC day for everyone. Remember, this is a regular instructional day, so immediately following the parade students will remove their costume and return to their classes and LEARN.
Costume Guidelines
Parents: Please be sure to follow these guidelines in regard to your student’s costume
Students must wear regular clothes underneath their costumes (or have an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks)
Students will remove their costumes after the parade.
Students must wear shoes that abide by dress code (i.e., tennis shoes).
Students must be able to use the restroom independently in their costume.
No scary clown, violent themes, weapons, masks, or gory costumes. Keep it EPIC Cougars!
If a costume becomes distracting, the student will remove his/her costume and put it in his/her backpack.
Our Conway Crew thanks you in advance for following these guidelines and making it an EPIC event!
