New Community 360 Counseling Center Opening this Month
The Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is pleased to announce the opening of a new Community 360 Counseling Center, which will be located adjacent to their district offices in Calabasas. The Community 360 Counseling Center (The Center) will provide a variety of student mental health supports related to anxiety, depression, substance use, school refusal, and suicidal ideation.
The Center was developed and will be supported by grant funding recently awarded to LVUSD. Through its Community 360 initiative, the District has aligned with regional mental health providers at Ludington Institute, Engage Therapy, and Give-an-Hour to develop a comprehensive community support collaborative. This collaborative, which also partners with local law enforcement and city officials has been providing resources, hosting educational events, and has launched several series of podcasts, which are all accessible through their website at community360.me.
The Center will be staffed by Mona White, PPS, LMFT, and Kathleen O’Connell, PPS, AMFT, who will work with school officials to provide an extra tier of mental health support for the district. “We believe that this new model will help ensure that we continue to take care of the comprehensive health and wellness needs of our students,” said Dr. Dan Stepenosky, Superintendent, “We are grateful for the grant funding that has allowed us to implement this innovative model.”
The new Community 360 Counseling Center will hold an official opening in February 2019. Through partnerships with USC and CSUN, social work and counseling interns will also be trained through The Center to build community capacity to continue to support health and wellness efforts.
