Having trouble with Firefox?
Recently we rolled out a proxy certificate which may cause you trouble using firefox. If you get a certificate error in firefox, this is expected behavior. You will most likely see this when using Google, Ask.com, YouTube or Bing in Firefox. Firefox can be used with other Internet destinations. If you see this specific error you do not need to submit a HelpDesk ticket.
I am not going to claim to understand all of the hows and whys of this change, but I can tell you that it has to do with our kid's protection and our legal responsibility to monitor student use.
End of RC2!

Twitter Chat Update
Thanks to those of you that joined the Twitter chat Tuesday night on Voice and Choice! If you were unable to attend you can still read all of the great ideas and see the resources that were shared by searching for #FISDchat on your Twitter feed. Here are a few quotes and highlights. PLEASE scroll to the bottom for some great resources. The Smore link is really good!
“V\C allows students to take control of their own learning.”
“Voice is making sure each student is heard. Choice in empowering students to choose how they learn or show what they have learned”
“Voice and Choice stems from the culture in the school and classroom. When you start promoting these, your Ss will not be accustomed to it. Most times they’re not given much freedom. Expect a struggle, but work through it.”
“Offer students different options to demonstrate evidence of learning with Choice Boards!”
CHOICE BOARDS, MENUS, & TIC-TAC-TOE
(Tic-Tac-Toe Boards and Menus are two different types of choice boards.)
"A choice board is a graphic organizer that allows students to choose how they will learn a concept. The choice board below has nine squares. (There is no minimum or maximum, however nine seems to be a good number.) Inside each square is an activity. Students can choose one or several activities to complete. Choice boards can be organized so students need to finish one square before moving to the next, they can be random, or can be organized in a specific way. The level of difficulty of the activities can vary or stay consistent."

Our next Twitter Chat will be held in January, but keep your eyes open for campus chats between now and then!

Remind 101 Update Coming!
Digital Citizenship Spotlight- Email Ettiquette
Things to mention:
- emailing teachers or staff is different than emailing friends, and different etiquette rules apply.
- Complete sentences and correct grammar are always important.
- The subject line in email should not be abused! Choose a subject that helps your teachers find your email from their very full inbox.
- Always email teachers from your school email address
- Begin your email with a greeting.
- End your email with a closing.
- Don't use all caps.
- Be careful of tone. Read your email out loud to be certain that it sounds polite.
- Be sure to clearly explain your reason for emailing your teacher.
- Be sure to include your first and last name somewhere on your email.
- Check your email daily for updates from your teachers or important information.
All of these are tips that will help our students develop those ever-important communication skills that we value so highly!
