Showcasing Our Strengths
If you have been eagerly awaiting your latest Online Learning Library Newsletter you might have been wondering why it has been so long! I have been working on some neat projects and events with awesome colleagues and am excited to share some of that work here. For some of you, this is a dull time in the academic work cycle while for others you cannot get your courses published fast enough. Hopefully you can all take a minute to read the latest updates from the library world! Those of you at University Park should appreciate the background image on this newsletter as we will see those soon enough on campus!
As always, if you have any questions or feedback to provide to me you can send me an email (victoria@psu.edu) or give me a call. I really enjoy providing library services and connections to our online learning students and stakeholders and am always up for new projects.
Distance Library Services Conference “Going the Distance”
My colleague, nursing librarian extraordinaire Kat Phillips, is jumping head first into collaborating with me and we are hosting the national Distance Library Services Conference at the Penn Stater from July 7th-July 9th 2020. This conference was run and supported by Central Michigan University for several years and we are indebted to them for their work and are excited to continue offering an in-person conference dedicated to distance and online library services. I hope that many instructional designers and faculty members who teach online will be interested in attending the conference and possibly presenting. The conference attracts anywhere from 250-300 people from around the world. We already have lined up an amazing Keynote and will be launching our website soon.
Online Learning Summit
Save the date for the Online Learning Summit. This is the first offering of a half-day professional development and networking event for librarians and our colleagues around the university. This will take place on November 4th, 2019 from 11:00-3:30 right here at Pattee and Paterno Library. The agenda for the day includes a lunch, presentations from online leaders across Penn State, and librarian presentations on their efforts around online learning. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form.
Subject Librarian Mapping
One of the more challenging parts of using the library is knowing where to go and who to contact. While you can always contact me, you might also want to know who has subject matter expertise for different disciplines. Some of these librarians are at University Park while others are at a commonwealth campus. A few programs still have an unidentified subject matter expert but the list is maintained and updated. I welcome any feedback on this list and am always looking to improve it! We all work collaboratively in the library and if you contact me and another librarian should be included or vice versa we work hard to make sure all important voices are in the conversation.
